It all depends on your preference, i've been running the same set up for 2 years now.

I like smaller bars with brakes and two pegs. I guess I'm not trendy at all.

Ya, about 25" wide here, rear brake and two pegs non-drive for me.

I have no idea how wide my bars are... I just made sure to cut my bars evenly. When I can eventually ride again, I'm going to cut my bars a bit more because I got a dirty harry lever so I can run that on the bend.

Aside from the fact that I was riding brakeless in 1999, have pretty much always been pegless, and had to move to taller, more swept-back bars due to wrist problems... yeah.

What kind of bars do you have?
my piff bars even if I cut them down would only get to about 23"

(24.5 with, two pegs [sometimes a micro to] always ride brakes.)

I also have wrist problems... wouldn't taller bars just help your back?

1999-2003 - S&M Castillo Bars (7" tall, 6° backsweep, cut to 23") - Major wrist problems. Had to wear braces on both wrists.
2003-2004 - Solid Hella Light Bars (7.5" tall, 12° backsweep, cut to 25") - Had to wear braces on both wrists occasionally.
2004-2006 - S&M Slam Bars (8" tall, 12° backsweep, cut to 26.5") - No braces, but banged the hell out of my kness on the D.
2006 - S&M Beringer Lights (8" tall, 10° backsweep, cut to 26.5") - No braces, no knee banging.

The only time my wrists really hurt me is when I do nosemanuals.

I've been thinking of getting some piff bars, how do you like them?

No brakes, 2 pegs on left side, and bars cut to 22.5''.

MadMan2k

Stock specialized bars, they were 24.5" but I cut them. I actually think they're a little short, the next set I buy I'll probably cut to 23" or so.

my piff bars
Do you know what Piff is?

Anyways...
My setup change when i grew taller and because of Building the Underground (Slam bars!)

Uncut Slams(got them for the trend, but fell in love), Small gearing, straight cable (kinda short), sometimes squeaky brakes(not recently though...) and a low seat (i actually raised it about an inch and i think thats perfect) I never really rode pegs either. I would put them on every once in awhile to ride for the day, but as soon as i would go to the trails i would take them off.

I want a new custom bike, but I suck anyway and a bike wouldn't really help... I might get a freecoaster hub though, which everyone on bikeguide seems to be doing but I can see why, they seem like a lot of fun.

As have I, or even getting a primo bomb and lacing it to a zx22 hoop I have laying around and just re-using spokes.

And before you diss the Primo Bomb, I know it's bad, but they're like, $15 on ebay somtimes.

Save up and just get the KHE street. It looks pretty good. I even thought of getting it, but it's like completely different than a cassette and I don't know if I'd be able to balance as well without backpedaling.

It's probably still not as good, but the KHE Giesha street has adjustable slack for quicker engagement, and also aparently the Poverty freecoaster is very good, considering it's poverty.

I've been thinking about doing that but i don't have any more.

Then i came up with the idea that i could split it with a friend or two and we all share it and mess around on it, but then i realized all my freinds are broke like me.

The KHE is better... and a lot lighter. The poverty is a pig.

yeah but the poverty is way cheaper

If you buy a freecoaster you shouldnt be conserned about the weight of it.

MadMan2k
12-11-06, 02:25 PM
Why not?
I think the main reason you'd need a lighter cassette hub would be so you can do 360's and hop whips easier, and you can do those on a FC hub too

premiumbmx2005
12-11-06, 04:46 PM
no matter what a freecoaster is going to weigh a good amount...i doubt a few ounces will stop me from doing my hop whips :)

no matter what parts you have on your bike, you are not going to do hop whips. and the khe weighs only a little more than a regular cassette hub. the back wheel with the poverty is just going to be really heavy and piss you off.

That's an expensive thing to play around on... even if it is "cheap" it's still like $80 that could be spent on something more worthwhile.

Spend the $60 on a new stem and then save your money for something that breaks... or atleast that's my take on it... although I'd really like to tryout a freecoaster.

Mee too. Except instead of the stem if i was going to throw away money it would be on a front wheel.
(Right now i have a 48h 14mm Odyssey hazard wheel in the front wich i dont need...)

I really want a Profile mini laced to a Rhynolite. But i'm broke and don't need it. (This doesn't mean i wont take donations!)
