Looks???? You can not see it when the cable is installed. It is internal to the housing for the barrel adjustment at the brake.

Edit...why did this posting pop to the top of the thread as #1...should be #3

Just got a set of used Ultegra 6500 brakes. When I tried to install them, the stock cable shield (has end cap installed) would not fit into the adjustment barrel. It appears that the adjustment barrel on the brakes has a insert that reduces the size of the hole for the brake line shield. It looks like it would fit OK if that slieve was not in the hole.
Is that slieve supposed to be in there or is it probably left behind when the previous owner removed them and the old slieve end cap was left in the hole? I looked in the hole and the slieve has slots in it that would suggest that the slieve has some spring action to retain it in the hole.
Before I get overly macho and find a way to get that slieve out, can someone tell me if that slieve is supposed to be there or is an optional item to reduce the hole size to allow some other cable size to fit in.
The existing cable and shield is on a new C'dale that has C'dale "Delta" brakes that I am replacing.

You can take it off. It's just for looks.
