Classic & Vintage - Peugeot PSV-10, ressurected once again...

...and rolled up in a nice 18 pound package. More then overly responsive and whippy up front for my liking though.

Road tested it for the first time today. My first experience with STIs, and I must say they are pleasing to use, but my own personal preference remains with good old friction D-Ts.

Curious you mention that - "Lucky" could very well be the nickname of this bike. The LBS was tossing the frameset, which I recovered; the wheelset and tyres came off of Craigslist for $30; the STI levers from the LBS, gummed up and malfunctioning, for $5; the RD came off of the $40 Trek 728, of which I parted some of it out and made back the $40; the crankset was a freebie from one of the Oldroads fellows; and the Litespeed TI-rail saddle came from a Jamis Aragon hybrid I bought for $30...from the same fellow who sold me the wheelset ;)

Better pictures will come, don't worry. I noted that the new components seem to fit this particular Peugeot frame quite well. Doesn't seem to matter much that the frame itself isn't in the best condition.

The bars will be wrapped soon enough - have to place an order at the LBS for some white vinyl Pyramid bar tape. Additionally, the rear brake lever is extremely rough in its operation, even though the cable housing has been greased, and the cable ends finished off well, so this might prevent me from taping the right side at the present.

I'll probably try a teflon cable, see how that works. I suspected that the old Weinmann 650 might have been the cause of the trouble, but it seems to work smooth when squeezed by hand. Far as I'm concerned, I won't be happy until the Shimano 600 sidepulls are mounted...

Lever pivots sometimes get dry, no matter how nice looking. Mostly everything I have is dia-compe or Weinmann hoodless style though. I have a feeling the Sante equipped Le TOur is going to be a nice change from what I'm used to. I picked up some DT adjusters today. $17 + tax. I figured shipping would probably run me that much on the $11.98 deal.,,,,BD

The pivots on these STIs are fine, and smooth as butter. I'm suspecting the rear caliper is adjusted a tad too tight - but without that bloomin' Weinmann recessed allen key, ajustment is impossible. Hence why I wish to put the 600s on and leave it at that.

If you've never used aero levers before...you're in for a treat.

It's not the 1st time it strikes me that vintage Peugeots or very 'forgiving' in that respect. Or maybe it's white bicycles in general (check the Gazelle build thread etc.)? Or maybe I just think I see a pattern that's not really there...

It's the "Peugeot" bit. Nobody is afraid to strip and junk their original componentry, and anything is an improvement over their appearance from factory :lol:
