I just received my new Deep Cove "Handjob" frame from www.jensonusa.com. The frame is beautiful with nice welds and black paint. I was going to swap parts from my old Kaitai but I just couldn't do that to her (MonsterBike). I'll build this one from the ground up over the spring and hope to be riding it by June. I've been looking forward to a unique, high-quality, steel bike for a while.

I just sent my first order to www.pricepoint.com today, I'm starting off with '02 Marzocchi EXR 100's, 02' Race Face Prodigy cranks/isis bottom bracket, R/F Prodigy stem, Cane Creek C-2 headset, and Easton EA 50 2" riser bars. Next paycheck it will likely be XTR component group, Avid mech disc (for the front wheel-I'll use my XT rr V brakes), oury grips, pedals, and XT/Rhyno Lites.

This is my second "project bike", it will be my 3rd mountain bike (filling up my small apartment). I'm having so much fun researching parts, finding deals, and putting the bikes together, I don't think I can stop. I told a friend that she'll have to have me build her a road bike so I don't keep buying them for myself.

Also, what do you guys think about barends with riser bars? I like the barends on my other bikes, but they have flat bars. Is there some reason people seem to be againts that setup?

It's alot of fun to build up a new bike.. Researching components then finding the best deal on them etc... I am just about finished with Ventanna Pantera, last part is the frame and fork (took a while to get in).. should have it next wednesday..:) I changed my mind once or twice along the way which parts to get so got some extra's laying around, so got the Jamis Durango 12" frame from Jenson (never saw one that small before), and using extra parts to build it up for my son, shoudl be ready by christmas for him and by that time he should fit it :)

I don't recall seeing a riser bar with bar ends, but I never did pay much attention... there is no reason why you cannot put them on, it might just look different to people, since riser bars are often considiered for DH applications.

I ordered a frame from Jenson not too long ago and I'm really happy with the bike, it seems that for mountain bike frames jenson tends to have really good closeout deals.

I've been very happy with Jenson, I made a mistake and had it shipped to my old work, and considering fedex delivers next day even on ground, they called up fedex and took care of my mistake before it got delivered! The Jamis frame I bought for my son was only $96.. can't complain about the price at all.. I figured something he will outgrow in a year or two, did not want to spend a fortune on the frame.

Bar-ends with risers is considered very uncool. If you are going to use bar-ends, got stubs or something.

Good choice on the Cove! :) I was very close to getting one, but ended up with a Kona.

Jim, I think that was a spelling faux pas ;)

I was considering a Kona as well but they were left with only 19" frames until the '04's came out-I wanted a 20" or 21". The Cove looks great but I could've gone either way. I just got my order aknowledgment from pricepoint so I should be able to start assembly this week.

Cove's bikes are closely designed with Kona in mind. Cove is the largest Kona dealer in North America and their bikes reflect that.

Cove bike = Kona geometry + Burlier + much better warranty

One of the bikes I am considering is a Cove G-spot as it is essentially a VERY beefy stinky. :)

Plus, Cove has a cool headbadge!

I looked at a G-Spot before I bought my Intense. I like the way the bottom pivot works. Plus, they do have a reputation for being super strong!
