I am out of step with the world. Is that a good thing? Yet I am even out of step with a vast number of cyclists.

Today, for instance, is Saturday. Here I am on BikeForums, posting away. Where is everyone else? OUT RIDING, PETE, YOU DUMMY!

Why am I not out riding? Simple: I commute so much during the week, I need the weekend for resting up. Not that I wouldn't love to take a Saturday ride around Stone Mountain Park... :D

You folks just wait. I am getting stronger, and one day I will get up on Saturday morning, after riding 5 consecutive days to work,
and say, "Gee, I think I'll take a little spin around the park." And I won't suffer for it.

Just wait...

;)

And that's good!

When I was working and bike-commuting, I got to where I didn't want to ride on weekends because it was too much like going to work!

Now that I'm retired, any day of the week is OK for cycling, but I do find I have more energy next time I ride, if I rest a day or two days now and then.

Hey Pete, you wanna come and live out here for a while. We've got some seriously awesome riding to do on weekends. The biggest problem I find is motivating myself to actually go home afterward. ;)

Well As a Cook In A hotel I Always work weekends, so Sat/Sun are just more commuteing days . Its realy nice on early weekend mornings (I work at 5:30 am on weekends) there are hardly any cars on the roads and most of the traffic lights are flashing yellow. I like to imagine Im in a city without cars, I can still hear the birds in the trees churping as there is no traffic noise, it realy is sweet. As for my days off, I like to take casual rides with no real destination. Ill ride till i wanna stop, maby go to the movies of a coffee shop, or the libary, and stay there till i feel like riding home. I LOVE DAYS OFF :D :D :D

Cheers,

Hey Pete I didn't ride today, don't beat yourself up and call yourself a dummy. Me and my boss have a ride schedule we stick to in the week, so saturdays/sundays are usually noneventful. Except for the monthly road trips.

Pete,

I don't ride on the weekend either. We stay at home, or my wife, daughter, and I go shopping or somewhere else together, and that means driving. I tend to get all my grocery and similar cycling errands done during the week, so I don't do those on the weekend, either.

Not that I don't want to ride on the weekend. My wife is 7.5 months pregnant, so I can't get her to ride anywhere with me. When she's less top-heavy, and the weather is nice, she'll ride with me for errands and stuff.

I need to get a trailer, though, and we'll have to wait for the baby to get a little older. So, we're probably talking about next spring (2002).

"I am out of step with the world." Hey there's a song by the band Minor Threat called Out Of Step. It's about being straight-edge but the feeling's the same.

I'm in the same boat Pete, my commute during the week is so long that i don't want to ride on the weekends because i think it will rob me of energy and i won't be able to ride to work.
I am starting to feel stronger now and have started commuting 4 times a week now so things are looking up. I have also just gotten a recumbent bike and that makes a huge difference in my commuting.
