After I got off work last night I got a call to meet some friends at a bar near my work. I went and had a few beers and headed out towards home opting to take a trail that is longer but can be faster if you pound it out. Shortly after the point of no return on the trail my right pedal started feeling funny like it was leaning. I knew my room mate had at one point in time put a pair of pedals on backwards and it was in the same cranks I was using. I figured that maybe it got threaded wrong and just went on my way. Mind you was kinda drunk so I wasn't quite thinking right. A few minutes later I looked down again to see if my pedal was leaning to the side or if I had drank more than I thought I did. Just as I look down my foot comes off with the pedal still clipped to it. I stopped and tried to get it to thread on but it wouldn't go on at all. I didn't want to walk home with cleats on my feet so I opted to take a very slow one legged ride the last 4 miles or so. From now on I will be putting a lot more emphasis on working my left leg, it's rather weak.

So anyway, I need to get new cranks and pedals now which I can't afford at all. I found a single speed on craigslist for a little cheaper than it would cost me to fix my bike back to it's original condition so I might just go that route for now.

You have a few cheap options. First, to fix your cranks, you can either have a shop install inserts to repair the threads, or if you have a drill and some mechanical ability, you can buy the kit and do it yourself (may be cheaper). If you don't want to do that, there are plenty of really cheap cranksets out there especially on Ebay. I got a touring crankset (48/38/28) for my commuter for $25 shipped. To get you by in the meantime, I'm sure someone somewhere near you has a pair of platforms to lend or give to you for free. Be resourceful! :)
