A very sad day. just listed my Paramount on Ebay. Given the new spoused imposed (and garage space required) one bike in, one bike out, rule, something had to give with the acquistion of the Giant.

The bike has historical value, mostly for me for my personal memeories, but it also was the best Paramount ever built and the last great bike built by the original Schwinn company.

Really didn't want to part with it, but just didn't see tehre would be too many occassions to ride the backup, backup road bike. So off it goes.

I don't have anything nearly as nice as that Paramount -- not even close, but I know one thing. You will regret it.

I regretted selling my first schwinn. And it was only a 1980 Schwinn Traveler with 1020 Hi-Ten steel. I ended up replacing it with a 86 Schwinn Passage touring bike.

Very nice bike. I think you are going to regret selling it. How many bikes do you have. Maybe another one can go. The way it is set up it seems very rideable.

Unfortunately too many. Just got a Giant TCR team Adavanced. That will be the race bike. Merlin Extralight is now the backup road bike. Griffen Vulcan is the TT bike. Paramount Track bike is for fixed gear training. Also have a MTB,and a tandem. As much as I wanted to justify keeping the Paramount OS, just couldn't make a convincing argument I'd actually use it. Better for some one to ride and enjoy it, than for it to hang in my garage.

You all make me feel lucky. My wife never hassles me about buying bikes, as I DO use them to get exercise and it keeps me from much more expensive pursuits.

...or bringing them home from the dump. Best of luck. Despite Kurt's suggestion to sell the tandem and wife, I hope the price goes through the roof, you receive a great return on what had to have been a significant investment, and that your wife loves you dearly for this sacrifice you are making.

Mine is supportive too, partly because I love it, partly because it's down to me to make them fit the available space, and partly because I'm in profit on it!

The key is to have a large basement and a wife that's afraid of spiders. And make damned sure the bug guy knows he's not to set foot in the basement-

MXL, if you are truely not riding it, it's not a bad thing to sell it. I did the same
with my trek 670. I just didn't ride it, the guy up in Norman Ok. (hey zach! ) does.

I had a PM asking for the geometry of this bike, so I thought I'd share it here in case anyone else is interested. There were actually three Waterford Paramount road models in 1989: one with Columbus SLX tubing, one with Columbus SLX tubing and a shortened top tube, and this one with PDG OS tubing.

Attached is the geometry table for the PDG OS model (taken from the 1989 Schwinn catalog).

The uniglide cassettes are now obsolete so for replacement I need to do something different. I guess my choices are either to cold set the frame to 130mm, or find a 7 speed Hyperglide hub body for the freehub. Just curious what you did with yours.

The 89 OS's were made with 128mm spacing because it was right at the transition from 126 to 130, so they split the difference. The bike was completely restored by Waterford in 1999, and it cam back with130 spacing.

Don't toss the uniglide cassette! At least send it to me! I run a 6 speed one on my Traveler and I'm always looking at the dump for extras. But if you just need cogs or spacers, Loose Screws carrys a great selection and they even have whole cassettes. They might even have uniglide freehub bodies.

Thanks for the info on Loose Screws. I'm going to see what my local bike shop can do for me first. I removed the Uniglide hub body from hub last night. I am going to see if the local boys have a 7 speed Hyperglide body to replace it with. Otherwise, I see Sheldon Brown/Harris Cyclery sells them. If I am successful with this I will send you both the cassette(13-23 7 speed) and the hub body.

If I sold every bike in my garage that I thouight I wasn't going to ride "enough" - well ...............

Yeah, I'm another one of those who can't understand the "wifey restriction" stuff. At the moment, I've got five bicycles and six motorcycles in the garage, all with the old lady's blessing.

Takes me back sixteen years to when the first wife *****ed about the one motorcycle I had in the garage. I filed for divorce six days later.
