I usually make my own. Lately for some reason I've been digging "Henry's Blend" from Seattles Best. I normally go for bolder/darker coffees but this one is good.

I only do virtual coffee. I do like Coffeemate (Creme Brulee or Hazlenut) in my cocoa though. :)

I'm usually a bit on the run in the morning, as was my habit for several years. I like a very robust coffee as far as flavor and aroma, and found, by accident, an excellent instant that fits the bill: Nescafé Taster's Choice Gourmet Roast. It's their darkest roast, and I feel as though I've had brewed coffee. I take it with me to Europe!
I like it so much, that when local stores here quit carrying it for a while, and friends couldn't find it in other parts of the state, I paid premium and ordered it online! My store does carry it again, I'm happy to say.
Yeah <loooooooong sigh>. Nothin' like a good cup of coffee in the morning....

The best coffee I have ever had is grown here and you can buy it from TesdelSol (http://www.tesdelsol.com/) . It is shade grown, organic and she (I know Janet personally) helps the farmers who raise it.
Trust me, you haven't had coffee till you have this.
I bought coffee yesterday. I like coffee that tastes rich and not burnt. So, of course I skipped over the starbucks beans. I picked up Seattle's Best, but I didn't really know how they were roasted, so I bought Brown Gold, which is pretty good stuff in my opinion. I want to try some good coffee like Jamaican Blue Mountain. I'd also like to try a coffee press. I hate the flood of flavored coffees that just taste like crap as well.
I use Gevelia coffee service. They just released a new Rainforest Organic limited edition coffee that is tremendous.

I buy from the local shop -- I'd prefer fair trade coffee, but it's a trade off to support the local guy's business. He deals with "Train" coffee and it's pretty good.
For linux_author's benefit, here's my impression of how to duplicate the taste of Starbucks "coffee":
Find a diseased and rotting tree
Burn it
Collect the ashes
Mix with used kitty litter
Allow hot water to pass through the mixture
Voila! Starbucks quality at a fraction of the cost!

Brian, the quality of this brew may be a little too high, but you probably got the taste right. :D

Cheap crap folders or maxwell house which I finely grind and fill my espresso machine with, and I do mean fill. I make 4 shots and add 4 shots of rice milk. I haven't had coffee for 4 months though. Thats probably what I'll be drinking in the morning for the 2 or 3 weeks I'll be working over christmas break.

Buy a local espresso blend from an outfit called 'Prima Goccia'.
At home I make espresso and cafe au lait with the above. At work I drink the $0.50 swill.

Why no coffee Brandy? When I was out there I noticed you probably couldn't throw a stick and not hit a Starbucks. :) (I actually like Starbucks, btw). Side note - I also noticed no one seems to order straight drip coffee. Its all triple no foam soy lattes and the like. Takes forever to get through the line.... :D
I've had Blue Mountain and true Kona and they are too smooth for me. Very mild, no bite. I like my coffee to smack me around in the morning. Something's gotta wake me up and get me going. ;)
Whatever swill happens to come out of the coffee machine is OK with me.
I'm not very picky...just wake me up.

The last time someone tried this thread it devolved into indonesian cat-crap testimonials.
I think that you mispelled "Starbucks".

There are some local coffee roasters who get beans from all over the globe. I like their darkest roasts.
Charbucks is too, well, charred for me. If I need a quick fix, I go for Circle K coffee. Cheap, tasty, effective.
Starbucks' Java chip frap, the best.
can you believe I actually never had Starbucks coffee??
Me neither. We're cool like that, we don't follow everyone into the starbucks and be part of the trend. We set the trends. Because. We're. Just. That. Cool.

A nice dark roast French or Italian. We order beans from a few non-local places, pick up some local stuff from time to time as well. I've never had difficulty finding a good local roaster anyplace I've lived.
Burr ground at home, then French pressed if only making a couple cups. For more than that, we have a stainless percolator.
A tbsp. of half & half, no sugar.

Delurking with a vengeance.....
(warning, coffee snobs can be a little obsessive) YES!!!!! I've worked my way up to a paddled turbo crazy (http://biobug.org/coffee/turbo-crazy/) setup. In other words, from the bottom up: A Stir Crazy popcorn popper base, with the heater wiring diverted through a switch so that it can be controlled for a little heat boost if it's needed in the early stages of the roast. Somewhere over that is the lid of a Sunpentown Turbo Oven, which is plugged in to a surplus variac for fine control over the heat of the roast. It'll roast a pound of greens as fast as I want it to, and profiled to boot. Mwahahahahaha!
As for my own preferred beans... The Harrar that Sweet Maria's had earlier this year, I think it was lot 30, is my current favorite. I'm a sucker for a dry processed African or Yemen coffee, but especially Harrars. Mmmm, ambrosia....
And for my preferred beans from others... Locally, it's Stumptown on Division and 45th. It's the only local shop I'll trust enough to request a double ristretto. And then go back for seconds!
What's your friend using to roast his beans? And which beans?
