I need a 1 inch headset for a 87 Rockhopper, the head tube length is 127mm and the fork steerer is 92mm. So do I simply need a stack height of 35mm or is there more to it?
Thanks in advance,
Dave

You need a headset with a stack height of 35 mm or less. If the stack height is less than you calculate, you can add spacers to make up the difference. If the stack height is more than 35 mm you need a steerer stretcher. :)

Just for the record, I assume it's proper to measure the steerer tube from the base of the crown race seating point to the end?

Yes, that's correct.
