General Cycling Discussion - does anyone have cycling dreams

when in full REM sleep state (not day dreaming) i still find myself dreaming about shopping in a bikeshop or buying my dream (haha) bike. I rarely dream about 'winning the Tour'

I usually dream about climbimg some hill that has been a real challenge. I can't figure out if it is a metaphor about life, or if I am destined to be a great climber. Either way when I wake up I can't wait to get on my bike.

Constantly. The perfect wheelie, drop 360 nosepick off of a ladder...you name it I am god in my dreams...

The Question is, have you ever had bike nightmares? I always dream that some meat head is stalking my bike and waiting until its all alone so he can kidnap it. When it rains I dream that I left my bike outside.

I've had a couple of odd ones recently.

In one, I've bought the missus and I new bikes. The top tubes were chin-high as I stood next to them, and there were extra tubes in the frames that in real life would have rendered them impossible to ride. I seem to realize this in the dream but am polishing them with a waxy rag quite proudly nonetheless. Perhaps this ties in with my penchant for regarding the bicycle as 'utile sculpture'.

In the next dream, my wife and I are trundling a cartload of moulding stock (work tie-in there) down a residential street. We push the cart into the back yard of a home, the occupants of which we don't know. There are two pink cruiser bikes (Treks!) in the yard and we ride them around the cart of mouldings. As I say to my wife "One of these would be perfect for you!", the occupants come out of the house to stare at us. Both are women. One tries mightily to be courteous as we speak with her but it's evident she's somewhat annoyed. The other woman sits on a sofa (in the yard; dreams are so accommodating, aren't they?) and scowls at us with her arms crossed. It's then that I notice that the seated woman is wearing a large strapped-on sexual aid (That's worded as delicately as I know how. Sorry!), and I turn to the other woman and say "Well, I'll bet you'd like us to get this cart out of your yard, huh?".

That one actually woke me up in the night. There's so much going on there that I don't dare examine it very closely.

I dream about a really bad wipeout that i had years ago. I was going down a very steep incline on a very old bike. lost control of my brakes and hit a mound of dirt. I flew a good forty feet before I landed with the bike on top of me. I only have a scar on my leg to remind me. I actually blacked out for a few hours and I never remembered how I got home. as far as what i'd like to do...... I would love to take a long ride accross some of our more beautiful states. I'm searching for grants to help pay for my trip. the best i've found so far is from balance bar. has anyone recieved this grant before? just trying to get some tips for my application.

I have.. Usually I find myself in some far off place and in no hurry to get home.. Couple times I recall, I called home and no one knew I left, just my bike was gone..Once I was in Mongolia. Don't recall if I ate the yak..

I see myself cycling across Canada. I'm confident I will do it some day. I also see myself cycling in more exotic locations but I'm not sure this will happen.

Seems easy that I would dream about cycling once in awhile. Like today.. I rode home after PM shift. Got home about 9 am...
Often I am tired and just collapse on the floor, asleep w/o shower and fully ready to get out for next ride.. I don't often remember my dreams- but do remember riding through Mongolia.. My dream portrayed Mongolia as a vast plain. Think maybe my dream was based on my constant planning for the next tour and and the many travologues I have seen..

I have had dreams where my bike was stolen; but the really weird ones is (example) is where I roll into a small town that I have never seen before and it's early morning so I ride up to a small cafe and park my fully loaded touring bike (which I do not own-yet). I enter the cafe and I can smell eggs and bacon cooking and hear people talking; I go to sit a table by a window so I can keep an eye on the bike when a woman in her mid 60's sits down across from me. I realize this a woman I knew and hadn't seen since I was a teenager! Then as we're talking I look down at my arm and hands and realize that I too am in my 60's! That particular dream occured about 5 years ago when I was around 45; so the question I have is how do I know what a person is going to look like after 50 some odd years and I'm not that age myself?

I have had numerious dreams like the above.

Froze.. Your dream reminded me of a dream I had when on my Central Coast bike tour two years ago..
We stayed at a friends home in San Louis Obispo. She felt very secure in her home and neighborhood.. She kept all our bikes out in the garage and the garage un-secured.. No where in urban U.S. do I feel secure with myself or my valued toys.
I remember I woke the house up. I had a dream my bike was being stolen. I woke up yelling about someone stealing my bike. Was asked do I always have nightmares.. I am always paranoid about my favorite bikes.. Never out of sight and when at home tied to the garage floor with a u bolt and thick cable..
Amazing I fell asleep not sure about the safety of my Klein..

i have had dreams where i have gone to the nursery to get shrubs and tied them to my bike...or strapping 2 x 4 's to my bike when i was finishing my basement.

i've dreamed of being in a funeral procession entirely comprised of bikes.

i even dreamed of putting a lo-jack type device on my bike to prevent theft

do not mix strong antibiotics with painkillers.. the dreams are particularily wild :) i frequently dream of being on my bike.. but it's usually riding through shoulder high fields of poppies..lol like Dorothy in the wizard of oz. i can't see the path but i really don't care and i just know i am grinning and i wake up feeling wonderful

those are the mornings i wake up and my hair has become this huge fine ball of knots lol
guess i was in a head wind :)

Yeah, but very seldom. The one I remember is the one where I saw Jan Ullrich cycling in a park near my area and I called out to him. He waved back at me, HAHA, guess I was damn happy at that point in time.

I have had many. The best was after seeing the movie "Alien;" in it I was fixing a tubular tire, had just peeled off the base tape, and the Alien burst through the stitching and attacked me.
