Hey all,

Well you were all right. My girlfreind and I are now addicted to bike riding. We HAVE to go a least once every day now and for at LEAST 40 mins. Its like a ritual now. We went for an hour and half bike ride yesdterday. Every day seems to get easier and easier on the legs and tiredness afterwards. I think I got a little carried away the other day though because we started racing each other and going sooo fast. Then we stopped and I got off my bike for a sec to walk around and I thought I was gonna fall on my ass. We both got dizzy from it LOL. We werent drinking anything though either so that probably played alarge factor. Now that we have started biking and are ADDICTED to it now we are now starting to be more smart with our eating and drinking habits as they have to change along with excercise.

Just thought Id update everyone. I see your addiction! LOL

Good for you!

I wish I had the time to ride as often as you! I am lucky to find the time once or twice a week. Maybe now that my after-school program I was teaching is over...

(It would also help if someone else around here would ride with me..would be a great motivator!)

There are lots of joys of riding solo, which is my preferred mode. Set own pace, go places you want and when you choose, be alone with own thoughts.

Joe-

Welcome to the club! I am at the point myself where I am totally addicted myself! I can now do 30 miles a day comfortably, and I'm working on pushing up to 50- 75 miles a day. That would be a nice goal for the end of the summer.

One word of caution about this comment you made-

Then we stopped and I got off my bike for a sec to walk around and I thought I was gonna fall on my ass. We both got dizzy from it LOL.

When cycling, the blood is shunted away from the less used limbs of the body and shunted towards the legs. A sudden stop without a cooldown causes blood to pool in the legs, which means that there is a lack of blood going to the brain, hence the dizzy feeling. The sudden stopping doesn't allow the body time to start pumping blood back to the upper body fast enough for the activity to stop (including the brain), and you get this lightheaded feeling as a result, until the body readjusts itself and begins to pump the blood back to the upper limbs and brain.

If you do need to stop, for now, until you get into riding more often, consider doing a slow pedalling for a few minutes first, take some deeper breaths, sit up as much as you can, drink some water, then come to a stop. You'll find that you won't have that lightheaded feeling.

Good luck with all that cycling! Here's to working up to those 3 hour rides!

I love riding solo. I do sometimes wish, however, that I had a riding partner who would say "No, leave those chores till later and come ride right now!" I am too easily distracted by things I need to do, so I often do not get out for a ride and later wish that I had!

I know I'm totally addicted. I find a lot of excuses not to do other things so I can ride.

I do wish I had a riding partner, although I do like to do solo rides too. I have this guy that I sometimes ride with, but we're obviously not the same level- he is waaaaaaay more advanced than I am, but he likes to ride with me because I want to go longer distances, and no one he knows goes long distances. Still, he's only available some weekends, so that leaves me by myself, like this weekend! Still, it's nice to be able to just ride and go in your own head too.

Both have their ups and downs.

I love to ride, but having kids makes a definite difference, especially if you are a single parent! Sometimes you just CAN'T ride, even when you want to.

I work 12. 5 hour shifts. I would feel more complete if I rode every day.. But I have more days off and 3-4 times a week I go on really long rides.. I see people riding as I go into work and I feel cheated..

Welcome to the addiction! :)

I usually get out for an hour each morning before work (~ 20 miles), then another 30 - 45 min (5 - 10 miles, very slow pace) after work before bed (2am). Saturday and Sunday are set for long rides, usually no more then 40 miles each day.

Ive been told Im addicted too, I try to ride 300ks a week taking a variety of routes on my way home from work, when I get 3 days off work I try & spend time with my wife as I work shifts so I TRY to refrain from going on a ride , if I dont ride for more than 2 days I start to feel realy rough with massive head aches ,at first I thought it was coincidence but it happens every time .
Anyone else had this problem

Are you drinking enough water when you're not riding? Sometimes rides can really dry out your body, so it needs to be put back. If you don't put it back, it can cause problems.

P.S. I don't even try to refrain anymore. :D
