Here is my latest GW find.. I don't know much about the campy componants, but I would think these are not the high end stuff, correct ? The bike seat tube has Super 386 on it, does anyone know what this references ? Anyway for 10.00 I couldn't pass it up.. Hope you guys like it as much as I ..
Correct, not high end, but definitely funtional. A nice find, especially the price. Not often you find one complete and relatively unmolested.

Wow, That is one lucky find. A can of Mothers aluminum polish and you will be stylin with your own flexible flyer. Word of warning if your going to try riding hands off the bars put your knee on the top tube. It stops the shimmying. Alan's are a ball to ride. Good luck with yours

You have a full Victory Group, not record but still a very nice looking short run highly functional group and it is sweet that it looks complete.
Those 25mm aero seatposts are somewhat hard to come by and is certainly worth more than $10. Nice find!
I'm envious and would like to punch you in the ribs.
Ten dollars. You lucky SOB (son of a biker).

ALAN made some bikes with Guerciotti labels. I picked up a like-new one recently on CL, and paid $300 for it. Mine came with a full Dura-Ace group, except the crank (which was Specialized) and a camp BB and headset.
They are light and fast, and good climbers. For $10, I'd say you stole it.

BigBossMan, that is beautiful! I would love and Alan cross frame but in my size it would probably behave like a frame made from pool noodles.

Darn it! Why did you have to bring that up? One of the LBS's (not the one I got the 4 steel Guerciottis from) has one of these Alan-made Guerciotti framesets in red, NOS. I've been lusting after it for ages now, but I'm not willing to pay his outragous $300 price tag for it.
Can just imagine Super Record mixed with that red frameset...beautiful!

Weeeell now....if it is indeed NOS, $300 is not all that outrageous. Have you tried waving a couple of C-notes under his nose? Or is that more than you want to pay.

As much as I'd hate to do it (this LBS is notoriously overpriced, and I viciously make it a point to the owner whenever possible), I'd go $250, provided I could unload one of those Guerciotti framesets of mine for $250 - at least I wouldn't feel too bad about the splurge.
One other thing though - how's the ride on the aluminum Alans, and just how well do they hold together? I'm a bit wary of aluminum, always been one for steel.
Take care,

Yea, but after seeing him price Tange forks at $75, Huret Duopar RDs at $45, Campag Victory cranksets at $120, and other various overpricing, I get ticked off at the slightest of overpricing with this fellow.

This one has been mine since about 1976 and it has some pretty serious miles on it. I replaced the original fork with a newer Alan fork somewhere in the 80's just for piece of mind. This one is the father of GWhunting's and big boss man's bikes

I don't like it, either. That's what was on it when I bought it, and I haven't got around to changing it yet. I'll probably end up puttng some white tape on it - I've been on a white tape binge lately.

What did they do to it to fit the narrow hub in back? Hope they didn't cold-set the frame or bend it...if they did, kiss that frame goodbye, for someone got themselves in the deep poo-poo. Don't ever bend aluminum!

what narrow hub is that ?
120mm track hub, same spacing as 5-speed ?
if it's 126mm it would not rquire much in the way of washers
anyway in retrospect i seem to recall it was a singlespeed conversion

Nice! What size is that? Curious how it rides since I would expect the bigger the ALANs the more flexible they become.

Goodwill Alan for $10?! You could sell that bike tommorrow for $250 easily. Ebay would bring $300+. You've got a C-Record seatpost on there which is worth money itself (I'm pretty sure all 25.0's were Record). The rest is Victory which is actually nice stuff and growing in popularity. Alans and Vitus alu frames are great lightweights.
Is that Goodwill in the boonies? It's unheard of to get a bike like that in an SF Goodwill...the employees would simply take it first.

It's a 62cm. It's pretty whippy compared with todays aluminium or vintage steel frames. You can see the bottom bracket flex when you stomp it in a high gear or stand and climb. But it rides very comfortably for a short wheelbase bike. If you take your hands off the bars and whack the side of the top tube with your hand it will start vibrating pretty severly. But it rides great as long as you don't go hands free. I've really enjoyed it all these years riding it more than a custom built Witcomb I was stupid enough to sell when we moved.

Nope I'm actually in the Big city of Houston.. Here we have a Goodwill clearence center where they get merchandise from all over Texas that other stores either didn't want or couldn't sell. Somehow ever now and then a really cool bike shows up and If i'm there I snag it.. So far I have found some real gems in there, my coolest being a 1973 Lawwill Pro Cruiser, and a Nishiki Medalist in mint condition..

Sorry, that's a Victory/Triomphe post. Note the extra bits of metal on each side of the binder bolt area.

And IMHO, better functioning then NR, and even SR in the drivetrain department (particularly in the RD). As for brakes, both Victory and Triomphe are identical in function to NR and SR, differences are cosmetic only.

Thank you It's a 62 cm It rides very nice but you can see bottom bracket flex to the sides when you stomp it in a high gear. It also flexes quite a bit when climbing on the bars. If you take your hands off the bars and whack the top tube it will start to occilate. Just fine when hands are on the bars though. A true flexible flyer. Whatever Crazy Glue Alan used on it must be pretty strong though lol.

It's my understanding that they're glued and screwed, so my guess would your more likely to see cracks in the lugs befeore you see a tube/lug separation.

They are threaded and epoxied with allen bolts holding the seat stays to the seat lug and the rear brake stay on mine. The newer models pictured have the seat stays threaded directly to the seat lugs. I was just being silly.

Cudak... What extra bits of metal are you referring to? I thought at first it must be Victory but then I saw the seat clamp. It's got a Record seat clamp on it. Victory /Triomphe /Croce /Chorus/Athena posts had the larger toothed-adjustment clamps.

The extra bits of metal surround the seatpost allen bolt, in an upside-down valley of sorts. The C-Record post does not have this valley, exposing the binder bolt from the sides - in other words, you don't have to stick your head under the saddle to see the binder.

My desire to be certain got the better of me as usual and I went off in search of comparison photos. I turned up what I believe is a victory post but it lack the campy logo etching:
http://i17.ebayimg.com/03/i/000/7e/35/6cca_3.JPG
or could that be the difference between victory and triomphe and the above is a triomphe?
ah-ha I found this: clearly this muct be victory:

Finally, C-record:

Most people say the first 2 are record on ebay but they do that with lots of other stuff too.

Victory and Triomphe are both identical to the post in the second photo. Third photo is C-Record. I've never seen the one in the first photo before, and I suspect it is not Campagnolo, but some form of copy.

I totally agree that the first seatpost is Triomphe, (it didn't have a Campy sheild but should say Campy near the limit line) The second post could be Victory, Athena, Croce or Chorus as they were all the same! The third is Record.....and to me (I can't the seatpost too well in the Alan photo.... if the alan bolt is truly covered then you are right) it's the same post as in the Alan photo. Look at the pointy top of the clamp. The other, lesser seatposts have a flat, roundish top. Pointy top clamps mean Record!!! But I admit I really can't make out the bottom part of the seatpost in the photo.
Can we PLEASE have an enlarged image of that damn seatpost! (Oh god, I think I need to give the internet a rest)
