I remember you posting about getting a saddle a while back. What did you end up getting? I need a new saddle for my new old bike and was just wondering what you settled for. :)

Maybe I took it wrong but you seemed a little snappy at first.

Well anyway, glad to hear your numbness is better. Now you can enjoy riding. That was real nice of LowCel, though. He is not one to be a tightwad, that's for sure. I know that if he can help someone to further their enjoyment in riding, he is always there to help. :)

Yes LowCel saved me 80 bucks! And the seat is very nice. :)

Like the saddle choice made by some thirteen year old boy should have any bearing on your saddle choice...

What does it matter how old you are? I have some friends who know more about bikes than most shop owners do.

The saddle on my new old bike is gel. I have to get something better later. But then I haven't even received the bike yet so maybe it will still be okay. Just that the original owner said that maybe I should go for one that is not gel.

Because with gel you end up not just using your sit bones on the saddle. The gel pushes up into your *ahem* and puts pressure there because it is trying to support you. You want to be supported by your sit bones not by your *ahem*.

what kind of seats you got on your MTB?? I'd just put one of those on it, or at least close to the same type..

can't look any worse than those brooks saddles.

if it's a road bike, don't be afraid to say it. i just got one and i'm quite happy with it. compliments the XC stuff pretty well.

and i agree, you want to be supported by the sit bones, not the gooch.

15 years old and massive leg muscles, comparable to a tree trunk.

I agree that my age means I have less experience, but Sui was just asking how I liked my new seat.

Siu is getting a road bike! I'm sending her a 1984 or 1985 Trek 460. I used to commute with it when I was 14, but its too small for me now. Its a decent little 700cm road bike that doesn't fit me or anybody in michigan I know so I'm sending it off to the PRK.

I don't have any pics, and my schools connection is too slow right now to download any from the web, so Siu please post that pic you found.

Ahhhhh... the information you will find in foo, sorry Siu.

Two comments. First I don't care how light a saddle is if it is not comfortable then it's not worth it. Second, that's not even all that light. ;)

It's weight isn't too bad for the price though.

well, my old saddle was about 430gs (laser v). As far as railed saddles go, it was one of the lightest I could find, and it happened to be on sale. Also, as a DHer/FRer, I spend very little time in the saddle. Its only there to protect from butt punctures of a botched jump or something:rolleyes:

Check out price point though, they have some great deals.

ps, I have my old saddle if you want to by it. Its soft and in pretty good shape.

LowCel

Well, compared ot 430 grams I would have to agree, your new saddle is extremely light!

The "taint" is the word you're looking for.

Head to your local shops. Try and sit on whatever seats they happen to have on bikes, get what feels comfy. Maybe ask around with the gals in the emptybeer womens forum.

I've recently swapped over to a WTB something or other, and a SDG Bel Air on my two mtbs. Far more comfortable than the lightweight buttfloss asshatchet seats I'd been running.

Much nicer being a reformed weight weenie.

+1 on the WTB something or other.
I have one on my hardtail that has served me well and ordered another for my new build.

of course it's light you weight weenies...but it's comfy to, but no gel, only leather and titanium!

Her question wasn't about seeking useful info on a new saddle (what kind of idiot calls a bicyle saddle a "seat" BTW?) in any intelligent fashion.

All she has to do is buy another saddle like she is currently using on one of her bikes, or try a number of different saddles if she's dissatisfied with her current perches (an LBS is good for this process).

Posting a goofy question to some random teenie bopper is the least likely way to solve her alleged dilemma.

I wouldn't expect you to come anywhere near understanding these simple concepts, given your intense poseurdom but it does make for an amusing read.

I love reading your post. Continue on good sir.

I was looking at a $80 race seat, its what was recommended from my race teammates. Its not like I just randomly picked out a expensive saddle, which is what you must have the impression of.

Because the physical characteristics of a thirteen year old boy's sit bones are drastically different than those of an adult woman.

If believing that fantasy makes you feel all warm and fuzzy, that's great.

1. Your point is very good, I did not see it that way.
2. Yes, it does make me feel warm and fuzzy, thanks for asking.

I don't quite understand the whole Brooks saddle thing.
(bear in mind this is my opinion)

1. Sooooo ugly
2. they look heavy (I've never found a site with the weight)
3. they look very uncomfortable in the perineal area
4. they're so expensive...like sometimes over $350
