Mountain Biking - 2001 kona stinky, upgrades?

I recently aquired a 2001 kona stinky and have about 500 dollars(no more) to spend on upgrades. Im sure disk brakes are going to be on the top of the list, but is there anything else or instead of disk brakes. I weigh 180 and would like to take it off 5 foot jumps without breaking any thing. As far as I know it is completely stock.

Brakes: 8" Avid BB7s or 8" Avid Juicy 5s.
Wheelset: Azonic Outlaws.
Chain Guide: Go 1x9 and get an E13 SRS or go 2x9 and get an E13 DRS.

are there any nickel and dime upgrades that would also be handy?

That frame looks pretty nice for bein 5 years old. Maybe new tires? I mean if its an 01 model, I wonder how much the tread has been worn off. Other than that go with FreeRidin's advice.

Overall Stinkys are pretty solid bikes so you shouldn't have too much to worry about.

Your not going to break anything doing a 5 foot jump and only 180 pounds. I would just look at the bike, see what needs replacing, and then replace it.

please excuse my ignorance, but is the srs better or the srt? Also do I need the 4 or 5 arm variation?

Better yet, ride the bike until stuff breaks off, then replace as needed. Are the wheels disk compatible already?
It would just suck to blow your budget on a perfectly rideable bike as is, say in brakes and wheels, only to FUBAR the fork a few rides down the road.

no, they work fine, and yes the wheels are compatible

alright, I purchased the bash guard and it won't fit because of the arm is so close to the gears. So what do I need to buy? Would I be able to use a bash guard like this http://pricepoint.com/detail/13368-075_BLARR4-3-Parts-52-Chainrings/Blackspire-Big-Ring-Protector-Bashguard.htm and still use the e13 chain guide? or will this not work, or is the there a simpler preferable cheap alternative?
I'm about to go to the lbs and don't want to have to say "how can I put this on" and be given an expensive alternative like replacing the whole crankset.

I just found out all is well, the kit only allows the middle ring to be used when riding(the drs srs 2x9 1x9 didn't catch me). Thanks for all the suggestions

Do you want to keep the big ring on? Most bashguards are designed to replace the big ring. Depending on your terrain, you can generally get away without the big ring when on the trails. The one you currently have likely requires that you remove the big ring and put the BG in it's place using the same hardware.

The one you linked works with all three rings but I doubt you'll find a chainguide designed for three rings (but I am not an expert on this).

I plan on returning it and picking up a pair of avid bb7 mechanicals

if your feeling fruity you can get a set of replacment rocker plates to up the travel on the rear that alot of old stinky runners round my area have done to keep their bike fit for downhilling :)

Just to make sure are you sure your wheelset is disc combatible? Do they have six bolt holes to mount the rotor, can't see from the picture. It would suck to get the brakes and then have to buy a new wheelset that you weren't planning on buying.
