Classic & Vintage - Retro Racer: Nuovo Record Question?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I am starting to put together the parts for my "Retro Racer" that I had discussed in this previous thread.

I have two possible frames for this and various parts, plus newer parts that I will purchase. In the meantime I am working through some crazy possibilities and have lots of questions that you may be able to help me with.
How many gears can you shift across with a Nuovo Record rear derailleur? 6,7,8,9,10? What about 8,9 or 10 speed narrow chain on the older pulleys?
Thanks

I have shifted a standard 7-speed freewheel with no problems whatsoever. 8-speed cogsets take the same standard old-school 3/32" chain. I wouldn't hesitate to try an NR with a 9-speed cogset and matching "9-speed" chain.

only problem I can possibly foresee is if the narrower chains won't work with old and fatter DR pulleys...but pulleys can be swapped if that is the case. Aftermarket sealed-bearing aluminum pulleys like Carmichaels are super thin, guess they'd work with any width chain.

Either that, or simply stick on a pair of ShimaNO pulley wheels...

Heck, at least it gets the job done, eh?
Stop complaining before I start cobbling together a Nuovo Frankenstine from various pulley wheels, pulley cages, bolts, adjusters, etc...

Does the Nuovo Record derailleur have enough range of travel to go across a 9 speed cluster?
I also have some C-Record "doppler" retro-friction shifters, do they pull enough cable for an 8 or 9 speed cluster?
Thanks

Leave it to me, mate! (Hell, these pages are a BIG relief after another hard day's work, don't you agree?)

Happens to me too sometimes, problem is you can't really concentrate on things C&V while at work, can you (unless you work at the LBS, of course)
