Ok, here's my proposal...
I have a NOS 700c 36H Araya rim laced to a 6spd sanshin hub. The wheel has never been used.
Is it possible to disassemble the wheel and lace it to a 18H Ultegra hub? If it is possible, does anyone know what length spokes I should use? Thanks in advance.
Sure, just drill 18 more holes in the hub.

I've fooled around with building 18 spoke wheels with 36 hole hubs, but not been pleased with the results. You wind up it a wheel with 18 high spots...typical clincer rims don't have sufficient vertical rigidity for this, though if it's a deep "aero" type rim it might work OK.

Your 36h conversion sounds pretty good actually... I didn't think of that. I'll plug the dremel in and see where it takes me. If it turns out successful, I'll drop by your store and show you the completed wheel. (I'm in Salem) Thanks again.

BTW, I am doing this because I have no 6spd drivetrains and wanted to have an extra front wheel as a spare. So I am making this rear wheel into a front, not that it matters any.
