Texas - All Texans chime in. Its time to secede.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Dear Forum Master,
please give Texas it's own regional forum. Texas is not in the southwest. It is also not in the south. It is more like a big armpit between the two.
-NM resident

That's right. Its not the south nor the Southwest. Its an whole 'nother country.

Armpit? What do you call 7/8th of NM? Hobbs? Artesia? Jal? Give me a break.

Not enough people in TX ride. Most are too busy compensating for a failing in their life with the biggest vehicle they can find paired with a penchant for aggressive driving.

Furthermore, the ability to minimize steps/any physical activity is laudable in perverse and bizarre way.

More people in CA ride bikes. Therefore, they have their own "region" on this board.

Maybe there's a board somewhere about steak buffets? Hmmmm...

More people in CA have had their licenses pulled and have to ride bikes, or they can't afford a car due to the INSANE cost of living on in California. The nicest thing about California is that it is 1200 miles away!

Um, I was conceived in Dallas (or thereabouts), does that count? :D

As someone who lives in Arizona, I wonder why Texas doesn't have its own forum, too. It's a pain in the arse for me to weed through a hundred Texas posts just to find something relevant to my interests. :p

Yes, indeed; different parts of Texas resemble other US areas more than the Southwest; Houston on northward into East Texas is much more like the South than the Southwest, for example. Nothing against the Southwest, of course, but only about half the land area of Texas resembles the Southwest, and that figure is very approximate on my part. Texas was its own nation not that long ago, and still has much the feel of being a nation, at least to those of us with deep roots in Texas history.

I vote yea. Texas is big enough. Having lived in the Ausitn area for 9 years, I can say that the Guadalupe is indeed breathtaking. Venture outside the hill country area however, and most of Texas is sweaty, stinky and not all that memorable. Isn't no New Mexico, flatly put. Texas has every other state beat as far as wide shoulders as far as I'm concerned though.

I have been to NM. It has a few rich area hot spots, and a few beautiful areas. The rest of it is hot, dry, full of trashy people and smells like diesel. Just personal experience, but much of NM looks like a desert wasteland. Some plateaus and mountains off in the distance for good measure of course. Isn't it also the 47th poorest state in the country?,,,,,,BD

I mean as long as were insulting each others state for no apparent reason, lets tell the truth, lol.

Well, after seeing more posts in this forum, I see that this forum is mostly Texas stuff, so it would be more fitting for the Southwest to want to secede than for Texans to do so. Then it becomes a matter of whether the AZ/NM crowd feels they want to kick the Texans out, onto a separate forum. ;) For some reason I had not seen this regional forum until last month, spending all my limited browsing time in Touring, Single Speed, Bicycle Mechanics, and General. I found the Southwest forum while looking for threads on the Houston-Austin MS150. I like it here, even if the region I consider "Southwest" is 800 or so miles away! :) My area is coastal prairie and swamp.
