Mountain Biking - Industry 9 Hubs and Wheels

Anyone have any thoughts or experience on these wheels. I've been reading good things by owners over on the Mtbr.com forum. Here's a pic of their freeride wheelset. I'm not in the market for a wheelset but if anyone else is, you should do your research and look into these amongst the other choices.

They look cool, but if you're going to be abusive to your parts, then repairing dinged or snapped spokes is going to be an issue especially if riding out of town, and removing busted thread heads from hubs is going to be an issue too (had to do the same to a velomax hub).
Plus, why do they make a freeride wheelset with a QR?

Go look at their site. They come with some spare spokes; large machined alu pieces. Buy a few more while you're at it. Shouldn't be an issue. Some of the front and rear hubs are convertable between QR and 20mm or thorough axle. (i've read rumors they are working on a 24mm version for Maverick forks) The stuff I've been hearing about these guys is very positive so far. The few folks who've had any issues have been very quickly and easily taken care of by the company, at least from the anecdotal evidence online so far.

And it was Pulstar, btw.

And no, I don't own any of them, nor do I plan to buy any.

however, i cannot credibly report as to their longevity or anything to that effect. truing is the same.

the rear hub seems a bit loud, but not in a bad way.

That's not their freeride wheelset, it's their "all mountain" wheelset.



Oh, I was going by the OP info, not the website.
Didn't mean to totally Poo-Pooing these wheels without riding them, I'm just bringing up some issues that I've had with other proprietary parts using wheels.
The spoke thing makes me cringe after seeing my buddy scrape his alu-spokes on his Crossmaxes through rocks this weekend. 5 dollar spokes and a week ordering time means one week not riding, waiting for pricey spokes.
Spokes threaded into the hub body are a total disaster if the spoke snaps off at the threads, which also happens to be the weakest part.

Does anyone happen to have a price for these things, specificly a DH type wheelset?

If there's enough to grab with needle nose pliers you merely unscrew the remnant. If it breaks off flush (very unlikely) then a few seconds with a small drill bit will back that spoke remnant out, just like you can back out screws/bolts that have lost their heads...

Another "huh?" here. I've looked at some of the hubs and spokes, and they are not locked in place at all. Unless your builder Loctites them in, which would be utterly stupid.

As R.D. says, should be any different than getting any other broken off bolt out, (i've done this a time or two without any real trouble on other parts) if it happens.

Trust me, having ridden with a few folks who have them, and having looked at a few pairs..... these are much higher quality, and better designed than the Pulstars, Crossmaxes, Velomaxes, and others like them.

Pardon the big photo (all I got at work), but you can see the tiny allen head on the spoke in the pic (visible on the flange nearest the front of the pic around three o'clock). If you were to snap off the spoke near the hub it will thread right out. They thought these things out really well.

They do a mess of colors. Red, silver, and black are standard. Other colors are an upcharge.

No doubt - combined with the fact that Hadley doesn't support their 108 points anymore, I9 is looking like the best option for people who care about that sort of thing.

Wow, these look great. What wheel model do you have and what do you use it for?

They are the standard QR build. I had them built on Mavic 819 UST rims.
I use them on my single speed for endurance races (12-24 hours/hundreds/stage races), and for general riding and goofing off in North Carolina.
