As a teacher, I plan to take advantage of my 3 week Winter Break to get some miles in that I lost while preparing for the Winter Concerts (last ones are tomorrow, woohoo!). If anybody wants to do a weekday ride, morning or early afternoon, let me know. I'll be free from Monday until Jan 8. And before you get jealous, I WILL be using much of that time to learn piano parts for the choir, study scores for the band, etc. So who's with me? Any teachers or students out there? Mark? The other Mark? Ovoleg?

I just started daily weekday work :( I'll see you more on the weekend rides though!!
B - please join us on a Monday ride! They are pretty mellow, with the exception of the climb over Santa Susanna pass (which is actually a pretty short climb). Usually ends up around 40-45mi, and includes a pretty long breakfast break in the middle.
hey, let me know if any of those are coming out to Ventura County. I can hook up with you for part of the ride and I can buy the cassette from you (if still available??)
I'm on B-Track, so I'm not actually free from school until the week of the 25th. Of course, Grandma is here from New York, so I'm not sure if I'll be riding at all.
hey UK! my last day of work for a bit will probably be monday...so let me know if ya wanna ride...may got to disneyland next wed, thats about it.....

Our last day over here is next Wednesday and then off until the 8th. I think my wife and daughter may head up north for several days so I'll be in good shape to ride without guilt! I'll get in touch about this late next week.

I am off weekends and the 25th-29th. Keep us posted as to ride, date and time you want/can do. I have been riding on Sundays with the SFVBC as recovery rides and enjoy that. I prefer AM rides to afternoons.
Can you whistle a tune while you ride?
I'm shipping my bike to LA on Tuesday and will be riding the BF assualt on Mt. Baldy on the 30th. I posted a note yesterday about wanting to do a warm-up ride on Thursday the 28th. I'd prefer either an Azusa or Seal Beach/Long Beach area start but can probably find a way to get most places.

OK, I'll try to be there this Monday to celebrate. What time do you meet again? (I could get of my last @$$ and check, but figured I'd ask so I can stay lazy)

It's still available. If I don't get out there soon, I'll contact you and just drive there some evening when I want to visit my parents. My mom's a school health clerk, so she might enjoy a visit on her time off as well.
Can you whistle a tune while you ride?
Believe it or not, I actually breathe the pitches to tunes while I ride. It helps me to keep a steady cadence, but I'm not sure if that's why I started doing it or if I just did it because music is always on my head. I need to listen to more tunes in my car though, because lately the band songs and choir songs that we've been practicing over and over for the last 4 months are stuck in my head!!!

Forgot you are year round. I did that last year but never went off track. I would complain, but the extra salary paid for almost half of my wedding!

Website description is pretty accurate:
"Rides leave from the Western Bagel shop on the south side of Plummer Street in the shopping center between Shirley Ave. and Corbin Ave. Starting time is 8:30am, sharp."
Anywhere from 5-15 riders. Lately on the smaller side. Diverse group... very friendly. I will ride to the start when I'm motivated, but usually drive. :)
Grrr, I'll be there Monday if this cold is gone by then. Just in time for Winter break, how lucky.

I feel for ya....got the same stupid cold and having the same thoughts "NO! WE GO ON BREAK NEXT WEEK!!!" although we aren't off until next Thursday.

Vance, any parking issues with that place? I had my car towed while on a Simi Ride once so just want to be sure. My cold isn't too bad, so if I don't feel all stuffed up, I'll be there.
No parking issues. Big lot, no one has ever had any issues. Hope to see you there... the temperature is trying to tempt me back to bed, but I'll be there.

We finish up this Wednesday. Wednesday night is our daughter's choir performance at her middle school. We also have a bunch of songs stuck in our heads from weeks of practices!
Thursday is her last day in school before break so I'm planning on riding that day. My initial thought is Agoura--Hidden Valley--Dos Vientos--TO--some route back, either Hillcrest or possibly a swing to Arboles. Post up if you want to join me.

That sounds like a plan. I'm trying to knock the cold out still, but I sure hope it's gone by Thurs! What school does your daughter go to? My woodwinds professor at CSUN, Cory Nordall, teaches at Sinaloa and his wife teaches at a nearby middle school.

I've still got a touch of the cold too.
Let's see how the weather shapes up and then get in touch as the week goes on. Do you want to meet over in front of Agoura Cycles? No need to do crack of dawn and freeze.

We missed you today, B... but you didn't miss anything but a bitterly cold and windy ride! We even took the train back from Moorpark. lol.

That would be great. Time doesn't matter to me as long as I'm back by 5pm to start dinner for the missus. Everything else can be scheduled around the ride (piano practice, music score studying, chores, last minute x-mas shopping, and of course bike forums posting :D )
Vance, glad I didn't miss much. I'll join you guys on another ride soon. This cold can't keep me down for long. I will take the down time to install my new cassette and chain today, though.

Excellent! If we do the route I posted earlier, probably will take us about 2-3 hours. Weather service is calling for somewhat warmer temps by Wed. thankfully. I blew off my lunchtime ride today...too darn cold! Glad to hear others riding today even thought so! Will keep the bike at work and try for Tuesday instead!
Will make arrangements with you Wed.

so, for tomorrow..
How about meeting at Agoura Cycles about 10:45? That should let the early frost melt down.
See if this works for you: TO Blvd to Reyes Adobe to Agoura Road. Lindero around the Lake. Westlake to Potrero and out HV. On the backside Wendy to TO then Hillcrest, maybe up Westlake to Kanan and back. It's probably about 34-36 miles so it will take just a couple of hours.
Sheldon
That used to be a favorite route of mine when I lived in Agoura. Excellent route and you should be right on with the mileage. I'm going to try a short ride in a couple hours so I can tell you if I'm in or not this afternoon. The cold is all but beat, and I'm looking forward to seeing how well my veloce short cage deals with the 29 cog I just added!

No worries...if there are any issues let me know. We've got plenty of vacation time to ride!
I just got back from my nooner. It's sunny but still cold here in West Hills. I went out with shorts, short sleeve jersey and arm warmers, windbreaker. I'm still cold!

ok, I'm in. I did 17 miles at a modest 14 mph pace and other than a few extra sniffles and coughs, I'm fine. So 10:45 at Agoura Cycles, right. Anybody else in?
I tried to put the route on routeslip.com but it's having trouble saving, but if anyone wants to get an idea, here's my old version of it. Basically use Reyes Adobe instead of Cheseboro and Wendy instead of Lynn. http://www.routeslip.com/map.php?map=13562
