Hey guys,

I'm a roadie/ former mountain biker looking to get involved in cyclocross in the Boston area. Can someone recommend where I can get my start? A good bike to pick up? Such a noob....I know :)

I'd recommend you head to Providence this weekend for Nationals and check out the scene. The season here in NE is pretty packed from early Sept through mid Dec -- there won't be a weekend next fall that you can't find a big or huge race within a couple of hours drive time. I'm in WMASS, BTW.

Oh, forgot to mention. Most of the Boston clubs are pretty involved in cross. Find a local club and hook up with some of those guys and girls.

Boston has one of the biggest 'cross scenes in the country. There are a bunch of clubs that field teams, as well as bike shops. Depending on where you are, one may make sense over another. Check out Quad Cycles, Harris Cyclery, Boston Road Club, N.E. Bicycle Club, and Minutmen Road Club for starters. Folks involved in 'cross are really cool people and very inclusive. You may want to start by talking to some folks at your LBS.

If you give me a general description of where you are in Boston, I can tell you what club is in your area. There are numerous clubs in the Boston area that are more or less organized geographically. I would highly recommend getting involved in a club.

awesome thanks guys.

I'm right downtown in Back Bay. Any help with clubs would be awesome. Got hit pretty bad last year down on the Esplanade on my road bike (bad injuries) and I'm looking to get back into it, full force

Well the 'cross season is pretty much over, but the local teams are still active. The Boston Road Club started an evening ride leaving Porter Sq. at 6:30pm on Tues and Thurs nights - bring lights! Quad Cycles (mix of racing team and club riders) leave the shop at 10am on Sat and Sun. Come on out, meet some folks, and stretch your legs.

I see NJ is doing a winter series. We should do that up here. It's way too nice to call it quits.
