Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi,
I have three bikes with the following derailieurs (all Campagnolo):
Valentino Extra
Gran Turismo
Nuovo Record
What is the pecking order for Campy derilieurs? Thanks.

Flip the order you put them in, and you should have best to worse.
Take care,

You're leaving a lot out there.
Super Record, Athena, Gran Sport, Nuovo Gran Sport, etc.
Try looking here: http://www.velo-retro.com/tline.html
It doesn't give a nifty table or chart, but it's a start.

Thanks Cudak888 & USAZorro.
I did look through the Campagnolo timeline of products at <www.velo-retro.com/tline> and find the introduction of the following rear derailleurs:
1946 Corsa & Super
1949 Gran Sport
1951 Cambio Corsa, Tipo Paris-Roubaix, Gran Sport
1952 Gran Sport Extra, Sport
1961 Sportman
1963 Record
1964 Valentino
1967 Valentino Super, Nuovo Sport, Nuovo Record
1968 Valentino Extra, Sport Extra
1970 Gran Turismo
1971 Velox
1973 (End of Record)
1974 Rally, Super Record, Nuovo Gran Sport
1982 Gran Sport Rally
1985 C(Corsa)-Record
1987 (End of Super Record)
Some are labeled as "low cost" but otherwise no indication of performance ranking. I didn't see Athena listed.

Skip...there are tons of different Campy series made since the late 40's. You don't even have half of them on that list. Just know that any variation of Record (Corsa, Super, etc.) was always the top of the line within a certain time period. There were a few years (77-84?) when Nuovo Record was somewhat beneath Super Record as they both existed at the same time. The Rally group was the Record touring group for a few years. The more-modern series just beneath Record have been: Victory(early to mid-80's) Croce (late 80's), Chorus (early 90's-present) Centaur (for a short time in the 90's..I think). Athena was upper-mid range stuff in the early 90's (although very nice and collectable)
"The Dancing Chain" has a pretty decent Campag. timeline, although I understand there may be a few small errors in it.
Another one missing from Skip's list: the 980, which I believe was introduced in September 1980. It's not one of Campag.'s better-looking rear derailleurs, but it seems to function about as well as my NR of the same vintage ("Pat 80").

When did Gran Sport end? Did it run on long after Record arrived?
