We usually read here about a cyclist being killed, but here a woman stopped to help a cyclist who had been hit and was killed when another car hit her.

Friends and co-workers of Stephanie Jones, a Washington, N.C., woman killed Monday while trying to help a wounded bicyclist, said she died the way she lived: stopping to help someone else.

"It didn't matter if it was an animal or a person," said Christy Rowe, Jones' best friend. "If she saw you in need, she couldn't pass you by."

The State Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident involving Jones, 38, Khalil Muhammad, 21, of Greenville and James Godard, 58, of Washington. Published news reports stated that Jones and Muhammad stopped to help Godard, who had been knocked off of his bicycle and injured during an earlier collision. As Jones kneeled to help Godard, a vehicle crashed into her and Muhammad. Jones was pronounced dead at Beaufort County Hospital. Muhammad suffered nonlife-threatening injuries and Godard was listed in fair condition Wednesday night at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

This is just crazy.

Thank you, Stephanie Jones, for your sacrifices to this world.

Can we point fingers at motorists that just don't seem to "get it" even when someone is down on the road?

Sheesh.
