My friend, with whom I'm supposed to be going on a 250 mile tour (9 days), is succeptible to leg pain (muscle ache) after a ride. His joints are fine and he actually feels better the day after, ("a spring in my step" as he puts it), but he gets these aches bad enough to disturb his seep.
He's very fit, plays soccer and can walk up a mountain with no problems, but he;s not a consistent cyclist, and is only just starting out getting in shape for our tour next year.
Is it a common problem when starting out (I don't remember having any pain that would keep me awake - stiffness and sore muscles the day after a long ride, yes, but not what my friend gets)?
Anyone else get the same problems, or know of anythign that will help. He's really keen on our small tour, but I don;t want him to lose the urge due to the pain.

Oh, we're both in out early 40s, btw, if that makes any difference.
