General Cycling Discussion - New layout, beta stage, what do you think?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have been playing around with a new layout, logo, forums, graphics, and a bit more.
You can see the beta stages of the layout here (http://216.215.238.193/test1/). Theres still quite a few things i want to change / edit, but if you have any suggestions, or feedback before the new layout goes live, let me know by posting in this thread.
Also! You may have noticed that the forums load alot faster. The software now zips up the page before you recive it. Last week the front index page was 75k in size, now its just 8k! Download times for dialup users should be cut in half, if not more. Thoes on DSL, Cable, or high speed conections wont notice much difference, maybe a seccond or two faster.

Personally, I like the new layout. I can't think of much there that really needs changing.

The new format is good-looking--I can't say I prefer it to the old for appearance, but generally I'm OK with it.
One thing I would like, though, is more contrast between adjacent posts' backgrounds. Some kind of solid demarcation between posts makes it easier for me to jump from one to another--maybe it's just me....

Whew! No hate mail yet... Jon wont like that im changing the look more then once every 6 months... my only true worry :)
Joe, don't sweat my peculiar dislike of changes. I've been that way all my life, when something's good I just don't like to see it change. Stopped going to ABC News online for that reason, but I won't stop hanging out at Bike Forums!
To prove my good intentions, I devoted this my 1,000th post to saying, Don't Worry. (Now, sip a Slurpee just for me! :D)

Im too slow :)
Jon, i'll look into that issue, i'll let you know what i come up with.
Congrats on the 1000th post! :)
JonR has 1000 posts....Dang, I've gotten left behind.I'm gonna have to catch up.
Joe,
I don't know why it took me 4 days to even realize you were working on changes. I don't know where my head has been. ;)
Anyway, it looks good to me. Hopefully you can pick up some big sponsors. Will you still offer the color options like you do now?
The only problem I encountered was when I clicked on the link in this statement,
You can see the beta stages of the layout here. the screen colors changed and logged me out. I had to log in again before BF "knew" it was only me trying to get back in. :D

Ha, ha, you'll NEVER catch up as long as you're clipped into those stupid pedals and keep falling over! Never! :D :D  :D

Ron, you must be logged into the site via the IP address. You may want to log into the forums via bikeforums.net, rather then the IP, as the IP address may not always work.
As for the color options, i doubt i'll offer them, sorry! Theres a major bug with the color options, new users and un registered users are getting all sorts of color problems when viewing the forum. I'll try to come up with a few options, but i need to get this bug fixed first.

I like the way it looks. I can't think of how I'd improve on it. I think the logo is a definite improvement.
Jon, congratulations on your 1000th post. I only hit 100 the other day.

Joe,
You have to come out of the kitchen and eat with us more often!
:D
It has changed a lot since I first logged on in '99.
It has taken me two years to get the nerve to speak out.
Was waiting for the herpes to subside. First impressions are important.
I'm not trying to kiss a$$ but this site looks and operates extremely well.
Keep it rolling.

The latest threat under "training and nutrition" has us eating spam. With that in mind, I'm not sure Joe really wants to eat with us!
