Where's it going to be? I didn't see a location in the article, did I miss something?

Sorry. It's in San Diego Velodrome, admission is free. But they are collecting donation for the fire fighter who died in the wildfire.

I was hoping it was going to be at the track up here at ADT. Oh well, Dave Z's one of my favorites, it would be cool to see.

am I incorrect in thinking this is a really odd time of the year to go for the hour record?

- i guess this event/attempt won't be broadcast?

- thanks, ESPN!

Sounds like a publicity stunt, for a good cause mind you, but not a serious attempt at the hour.

Yeah, you're probably right, I think Sept/Oct right before or after Worlds would be when you'd see a serious attempt. It would still be cool to go watch DZ ride in cirlces for an hour.

I don't believe it is free. I think its $20 per head. But its more than just Zabriskie "attempting" the hour record.

Ain't no way he'll touch the hour record (concrete track, exposed to elements and wind, etc.), but yeah, it'd be fun to watch.

The first recorded hour record was in 1876 when F. L. Dodds rode 26.508 km (16.471 mi) on a penny-farthing high-wheeler.
Imagine doing that wearing a Suit, Collar and Tie and a Big Top Hat like they did in those Days...or maybe he was wearing a skin suit with a Big Top hat?? Who knows? we weren't there were we!

There's a $25K reward for anyone who can do 56 miles + in an hour (I think).

Quick: how fast would one have to ride to accomplish that?

I get it...:D

But one would have to average more than 56 mph....unless one was already doing 56 mph when they started the clock....

How fast from a standing start?

He would have to average 56. Yes, he would have to go faster in parts to make up for the standing start but the overall average would be 56.

and besides the challenge must have been for 56 km/hr, not 56 miles/hr. theo bos just set the 200m record at over 45 miles/hr and he only had to do that for 9.772 secs. holding speed for 3600 seconds is a lot tougher
