Hey,

I thought I'd post a couple pics of the bike I've been bugging you guys about.

So far I'm at about $125 of my $200 budget, a good chunk of that being the Brooks saddle.

It's nothing special, but everyone likes pictures of just about anything, so here they are, sorry for the crappy camera-phone quality.

That's not the chainring I'm using, but I threw it in the pic for the hell of it.

I haven't built the rear wheel yet, here's how I plan on lacing it:

why the weird lacing pattern?

I assume the crosses will be on the drive side?

Well, I figured... why not?

Sorry, that pic is one side only. Same on both sides

That first pic is really trippy..like those "exploded technical drawings"..

you should look at doing your wheels crows feet. super cool, and super strong. not sure its a good idea to have radial spokes on a back wheel...

That is a modified (hybrid) crow's foot, for 32 spoke wheels. sets of three (two 2-cross and a radial) alternated with a radial.

A radial non-drive is actually quite a smart bit, at least on road wheels, as it reduces the dish of the wheel and allows for higher spoke tension.

Looks like just 4 spokes are pulling on the drive-side... essentially a half-radial lacing pattern. Most crows-foot patterns are 1/3 radial at most. If you want to go wacky, I'd go 2-leading 2-trailing. Have fun with it though.

I've only built a few wheels in my day (less than 10, my most recent being a 3lead/3trail from a 36H hub to a 48H wheel) but that partial crow's foot doesn't seem like a great idea. The 8 leading spokes will be subject to detensioning due to torque from the hub, mainly because they will have less tension than the radials, and only have 8 shallow angle trailing spokes working against them.

Be sure to use linseed oil or some other coagulating agent, and let us know how it holds up.

Edit: are you planning on chopping the bars and using that TT lever?

oh ok cool. good to know

The rear wheel is an interesting idea, but I don't think I would want to experiment with a weird lacing pattern on the wheel that gets all the torque.

OP... ever built wheels before? if this is a first build, just do three cross. it won't look hype, but it'll roll right.

I would skip that pattern and do 2L2T instead, stronger and pretty easy. 8 trailing spokes total on a fixed rear wheel is a little bogus, unless you weigh like a buck thirty.

You must have a heck of a parts bin if everything there was $125.
