I just picked up an early-mid 70's Hugh Porter road bike with a Bantel (the English department store) Team decal on the top tube. 531 frame with Campy ends and a mix of Nuovo Record and early Dura Ace components. It's my understanding that Hugh Porter was a world champion in some track events (pursuit 1968 and 1970, I believe) and the Bantel team raced road events throughout the 1970's.
Anybody have any info on these frames? Who made them? Were they commecially available? Or is mine an actual team bike?

Nice frame. The LBS where I worked in the early 1970s carried Hugh Porter and I had one of their track frames for a while. They were available to us only as frames (with a TDC headset) and all were Bantel team replicas, with the Bantel decal on the front top tube. If your frame indicates the 1968 and 1970 World Championships, then the frame is probably 1971 or 1972, as Porter won his 3rd Championship in 1972. I'm not sure who made them, but I've maintained contact with the sales rep, so I may be able to get that info, provided he has not left for his yearly, winter vacation. PM me in a about a week.

I just bought a Hugh Porter frame on eBay and I was wondering what you may have learned.

Thanks
