Commuting - bike pedal and saddle recommendation needed

I have finally started my Viscount roadbike upgrade. Winter is here and it's harder to ride. Before adding some new drive train parts I wanted to repaint so last night stripped the components off the frame. My pedals are trash. I was thinking about buying the hybrid SPD and platform pedal as I use the bike for weekend rides in the country and commuting to work during the week. Does anyone have any experience or recommendation of what has worked and not worked regarding these dual purpose pedals?

Also, I have been using an older Advocet saddle. After an hour or so sitting on this thing I need to stand up to get some blood flow back into the obvious areas. Does someone have any preferences, things to consider or good experiences regarding saddles.

I have the pedals you're talking about. Some people don't like them cuz they have trouble clipping in on the SPD side, but it's pretty simple. If you're on the platform side, take your foot off and let the pedal rotate back up and it'll bring up the SPD side. Then just clip in. I like them for when I'm wearing boots or regular shoes or don't want to be clipped in.

As for saddles, I use a Brooks B17 on my fixie and mtb. They work for me.

I use the Shimano 324's. I like the hybrid pedal quite a bit. Sometimes it does take a little longer to clip in, but after using them for a while you can tell without looking which side of the pedal you are standing on, and you can flip them pretty quick with your foot. For me, it's hardly even an issue.

As for a saddle, I love commuting on my Brooks B17. It has a bandwagon for a good reason.

i have a brooks on one of my commuter bikes but can't really recommend them as a bomber commuter saddle.

the problem is rain... on my rainy day bike i have a wtb speed v (similar to the pure v). it's a nice cheap comfy bike seat you can get wet without destroying...
