My sister has a new Dell laptop that is pretty sweet but the screen is sort of hard to read. For example, here on BikeForums the words are sort of washed out and hard to see. It's weird because the background on the desktop is beautiful in terms of quality but it's just when reading text, like on this site.

What could cause this? I am going to Google it some more, but so far I haven't found anything.

If it is IE7, it could be Clear Type

Try shutting Clear Type off by following instructions here

Yeah, i enlarged the font already. I bet it's the clear type issue. I will try it.

Also make sure you run the Windows desktop at the same resolution as the LCD screen's native resolution. So if the panel is 1280x960 (or whatever it really is), you should have that exact same resolution in Windows as well. Otherwise, you'll have one display pixel spread across multiple LCD pixels and end up with interpolation effects.

Yeah, what Danno said. :)
