Foo - Girls, low rider pants, and bellies. Why?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I'm no expert but it seems like the low rider pants that the girls are wearing now have made a lot of them sprout bellies. And a lot of them are younger girls/women. I'm trying to figure out if it is the style of pants that makes the bellies stick out more or is it that there are just more belly laden girls nowdays.

I think its the food everyone's eating. Of course that style of pants doesn't help, it accentuates any protrusion.
Seems like an epidemic. I was in a bar last night for the first time in years and noticed a lot of this going on. I kept trying to figure out why these 19 year old girls have beer guts exposed. Certainly doesn't seem flattering.

Maybe they don't realize how it really looks. And maybe because there is so much of it going on, it doesn't seem out of the norm.

It is so prevalent there is a term for it, "muffin top"

Ha Ha...MuffinTop syndrome :roflmao:
Ive heard 'Sugar Cone' too....
In the 60's, the huge bell bottom, lowcut style was
the koolest fashion since the neru jacket, but that era of hippy chix
had the common fashion sense to know that a MaMa Cass style, long
flowery dress was to be used if there was an overabundance of flesh to clothe.
The cascading blubberfall totally disrespects the cool hippies who pioneered this
awesome look.

i thought the fashion of fat chics with their fat hanging over the side of their jeans, exposed thong, and tramp stamp was falling out of fashion? it been around for at least 4-5 years (at least it has been in NYC/Euroland).

I know what you mean broham. I see girls and women all the time with either small/large pregnant like bellies or beer gut bellies hanging out of their shirts and low jeans. I almost gag everytime. I really dont understand why they would allow themselves to look like that on purpose. Ild rather see it covered up or a flat or somewhat flat stomach. Its sort of like seeing the 300lb fat girl wearing a skin tight shirt that says SEXY on it. Not that their arent fat sexy girls, but come on.

You know how it works...we follow Europe's fashion, about 2 or 3 years behind schedule. They follow our music, about 2 or 3 years behind schedule. It's been like that for a while.
That being said, it's high time the muffin top went the way of big hair.

it's so they can show off their thongs and tatoo's.

i saw that look back home long before i saw it over here. it's too cheap of a look for euros to develope on their own.
probably started in a trailer park, or a public housing project.

It's really just a case of wearing the latest fashion or 'look' whether it's becoming or not. You older folks, think back.... did fat ugly legs ever stop someone from wearing a mini skirt?

Somebody called? :D
Anyways, I remember what Sir Mix-a-lot (the guy who sang "Baby Got Back") said a bout a really large girl who came up to him and ask if she "got back?" To which he replied
"Baby, you got back, front, AND the sides"
those pants really are designed for super skinny girls with flat flat stomachs... most teenage girls don't have that kind of build.
I don't have a pot belly at all, but i noticed that low-rise pants, which are actually pretty good for me because I'm high waisted, cause my lower abs to sort of protrude a bit and the pants kind of drop below the abs. So it makes it LOOK like I have a sloppy lower belly... if you really do have one, the belly will push the pants lower so your belly hangs out over the waist band. I'm constantly pulling the pants up. I don't wear a lot of bare midriff stuff, but it's not how it looks, it's kind of annoying. It's really the cut of the pants that causes the 'muffin top' effect. The more muffin you have, the more it'll hang out.
As for lowrider pants, it's not much better with guys. I have seen more underwear and butt cracks than I ever wanted to see... i would love to see the end of this whole ugly trend, along with camouflage and tattoos.

I have one of those small waist/large hips female figures, and I look forward to the day when stores once again begin to carry pants that sit at my natural waist height. I'll be the first to admit that I'm carrying extra weight, but I've never seen a woman with my body shape (even ideal weight) look good in those pants. We all end up with a "muffin top". That's what happens when you put something tight around wide hips and then expose your midriff. The first time I tried one of those on, I vowed never to actually spend money on something that made me look so unattractive. I feel bad for teenage girls who aren't yet ready to ignore the dominant fashion paradigm.
So, I stick with the unfashionable but flattering pants I saved from the early '90's or manage to snag at Goodwill and wear skirts and dresses more.

As long as it's dark in color, and properly sized, it's not too bad.
On one ride in particular, I was riding behind a guy wearing shorts with a white center section...the shorts were probably XL, when this feller needed at least XXXL. Not only could I see his crack, but the surrounding hair as well
Needless to say, I made it a point to stay on the front the rest of that ride...

This is exactly what I was thinking, this current trend really demonstrates the extent teenage girls are willing to go to "fit in" (hey a little pun there, that was an accident.) Very few of them look good in the low cut pants and all of them want to look good. Unfortunately, their definition of what looks good is more what their peers say.

To me, its really no different than the camel toe pants of the 80s. Results in the same guy wrenching affect. Girls and Guys have always been willing to sacrifice dignity and respect to fit in.

Hip huggers won't be around much longer. They'll probably re-introduce those high waisted pants from the 80's again and the muffin tops will go away.
I don't know that Portis is talking about muffin tops, I know down here in
texas I see alot of young women who have "poochy" stomachs and no love handles
(thus no muffin top), but a poochy gut and low rise pants and bare midriff are not
a pretty picture.

exactly... I think there are so many of them that arent stick thin that they dont care that thier guts sticks out a little or that they even have a gut.
Id say it's not anymore unattrative then all these guts men have, and they cant blame it on the jeans not being flattering.
so men are not perfect, well big news, woman arent either!

Ill never judge someone for not being stick thin but that thong thing hanging out the jeans is plain cheesy, it's as bad as woman advertising that they are going commando, not sure which one is more cheesy, trampy and obvious.

Well, I'm younger and I think it looks flat-out ********. Hey everybody, look at my flubber blubber! Watch it jiggle! You don't have to be supermodel thin to be attractive, but please don't show me the muffin.

commando, old school panties, or even men's bvds are sexier than a thong.

definilty but my point was that someone who takes the time to mention over and over that they are going commando for the soul purpose to get attention is as bad as someone showing her thong on purpose, the two of those actions are just as cheesy.
it's so they can show off their thongs and tatoo's.
Around these parts, the tattoo on the lower back is referred to as the "tramp stamp"...

The big deal is that it intrigues me why all of these young girls have bellies while an "old fuddy duddy" like me doesn't. I was trying to figure out if it was the muffin effect or too many trips to IHOP.

I think usually it is young high school girls that do this. They see Britney spears do it, and they are just immitating their role models. You don't really "understand" things when you are that young. I would say most college girls dont do this, as they have realized it is unnatractive.. however, you do see some here and there.
Basically I think this stems from people telling everyone they should be happy with their bodies no matter what the size. While I agree that people shouldnt be ashamed of themselves, I do think that people should understand it is unnatractive. The reason people are repulsed by fat is because it is human instinct.... same reason we like girls with big "mammers". Evolution/Darwin has taught my subconscious to be attracted to the healthy body, and one that is conducive to bearing children. lol. Well.. pontification over.
