BMX - Metal Burma

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Anyone have an opinion or information on this frame?
I am about to pick one up on the cheap either way but know nothing of the frame aside from knowing the company is good.

It should last you for a long time; that being said, it is pretty "heavy" in comparison to more recent frames. If I remember correctly, it was a 7lb frame.

I scored said frame.. w/
"hoffman cranks, S&M slam bars, Metal Bikes seat, 2 man O war hubs laced to hula hoop rims, super beef chain, new oddyssey rear tire."
and some other knicknacks for $120 bout 15 minutes ago. Merry Christmas to me.

It's a solid bike, and good price. It may be a bit too heavy for todays up and coming riders that worry about every ounce and can't even bunnyhop, but at least you wont have to worry about breaking anything. My freind who just got back into riding has Metal Kizz which i beleive is the Burma's Jenny Craig sister.

Word... The bolt that runs through the chainring and into the crank is gone and the BB doesn't look pressed in all the way.. So yeah, maintained by a careless kid it would appear. That is a threadless BB shell right???

Post a shot of the cranks, please. Hoffman cranks? Also, I'm pretty sure that that frame is going to have an American BB.
Fantomas
12-16-06, 10:55 PM
Yah, looks am but as I have never had a bike that accepts an american BB in viewing pics... I am not sure on the install... lame I know.
Not sure on those cranks man, they look like cheap **** to me. I will post pics and pop em off when I can, I am on my GF's mac out of town so don't have the ability at the moment.

Maybe he means Primo cranks that used to come on Hoffman completes...

That is what i meant. Some Hoffman completes came with Primo Powerbite cranks allthought i don't know if they still do...

Sick. I would take those cranks in an instant. I haven't had any problems with my Fit cranks besides the threads becoming distorted due to bad pedals that came with it that actually ended up breaking out of my cranks... they do weigh a ton though.

Speaking of threads being distorted, a kid that rides with me every once in awhile just completely ****ed his cranks becuase he didn't know that one side was reverse threaded

Haha. I almost did that when I first got my bike... then I was like "oh, there's a left and a right pedal"... and hence did not mess up my cranks.

k, the black cranks in the pics look to be (now) just general "Profile" cranks but... there are some that are raw metal in finish that (came in a shoe box w/ the bike) have really large splines and look really beefy... any thoughts?
Yes I know... I will shoot some pics later.

Since we are talking about stickers, I want to take all mine off... and possibly take my brakes off too even though the day I broke my leg I got a dirty harry lever and new brake cable so I could ditch the gyro. On an even sadder note, I never got to use either of the two. I want to shed some weight on my bike and I never use brakes anyway. No fufs for me.

FitRider 921

I don't even really want to attempt them because I think it's kind of stupid to have brakes for only a few tricks. I like the idea of going brakless because I've tried it before and really liked it. So much less maintenance too which helps because I'm lazy.

Yeah, I thought about that. That wouldn't be a good thing. I don't have any trails around me though. They always get torn down.

When I was almost strictly street I was brakeless, then I did some trails and tore my ACL and ATL, then it was brakes for me.

I can't wait to get back on my bike. I don't miss walking so much, but it's really been the lack of riding that's killing me. I have a long way to go though.

If they look like my cranks, and have this BB they're just generic 3 peice cranks. Heavy but they get the job done.

That is very heavy. What are you getting? If I get a frame, it's not going to be much more than 5 lbs because I'm pretty light on my bike.

I want a light frame. I don't need a heavy frame at all because I'm decently smooth so why carry around extra weight?

It's good enough for Bestwick! At least i'm pretty sure he rides that frame. It's one of the Mutinys...

Thats a lot of weight now a days...but it is a solid frame with good geo.

The FIT cranks on the complets are utter crap. They come loose, spindles bend and pedal bosses strip. How long have you been riding? Mosthave KOed a stock set in a month or less orserious riding.
Primos weren't used on Hoffmans much. Hoffman had cranksmade BY Primo for the PL completes.

The cranks that come on the flow series bikes are good. The are pritty much the same as profiles. I havent had any trouble with mine, and they are fairly light.
