Mountain Biking - Another crash video of me!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
eventually i will remember to lower my seatpost. hopefully before it is too late. i think that was part of the reason for this crash.
sorry for the video quality, it's just a little camera that i still don't know how to use well. i hope it still puts a smile on all your faces! :D
pic shows ruffled leaf descent into dry water runoff where i landed
short video was just us testing camera but shows approximate size with me standing on top
video shows me jumping and then i think i grabbed too much front brake or hit something. added with the high seat kind of catapulted me.
both hills were very steep. the one opposite the rock was barely walkable.

You should have had your weight farther back on the bike, and used your knees to soften the landing. Just IMO of course. Funny nonetheless. Dang MX.

Dang MX. i think that is where the high seat messed me up. i don't remember hitting it hard, but you can sense it's there. therefore, that is probably what prevented better body positioning. don't ask why i forgot about it. i'll have to make a pre-jump checklist.
I think the take off and the landing looks good until the point where you coundn't bend your knees anymore because of the high saddle.

embarrassing
It looked pretty good until your bike decided it didn't want a passenger anymore :D

Oooh. I try to err on being too far back. At least I can bail throwing the bike forward and landing on my butt instead of going over the bars...which I still do a lot.
Kudos for doing it on a hardtail! You just don't have as much cush to keep the rear end down.

thanks! :) i felt a little sore, but see no evidence of a black-and-blue. i broke a small piece on my helmet:mad: it was part of the rock lock retention system that giro uses.
Glad to see you wear a full face.

full face in the first video, but not in the second :p

the hardtail took it like a trooper. i don't think i'll ever forget to lower my seat again. i would have rather been hanging off back too, but the seat prevented that. obviously since it was me, i have viewed the video more than anyone else would care to and i think the crash is from the high seat and not front brake. my butt wasn't sore, but it looks like the seat is going right up my A$$ :D

i'm a huge fan of your work, keep it up!
as another fella performing simular stupid acts on a hardtail, there is much to be said about the benefits of keeping your seat lower.
edit: have your cameraman watch out for the random spandex crotch shots!

Ok, I watched a few more times. Yer right. As soon as you touch down you definitely got the ass-hatchet action goin on.
Have you ever thought about getting a telescoping seatpost? I thought they were silly at first but I found myself raising and lowering my post so much last time that I was out that my salsa binder started to seize up.

i wouldn't rule it out, but for the amount of times i do something like this i kind of like just having my solid post. i think i would want to see one of the telescoping ones in person before i would buy it.
funny thing is, i have the multi hex key tool right in my pocket...as bad as it sounds, i just forgot. i definitely know you should. can i blame it on my motocross days? you just jump stuff, you don't neccessarily prep things differently on motorcycle before you jump.
or maybe it is old age?
twice now i have done this. i won't let the third time be a charm. i actually want to hit that again next time i go out. i think i can do it much more gracefully. that landing is much steeper than it looks, but if nothing else i should be able to lay the bike sideways into a more gentle skid than launching over the bars.

Nah, old age wouldn't allow you to take that fall unscathed, I would've broken something!:p Great videos MX!

And that's why you slam your saddle before doing a drop.

Agreed. Body movement seemed fine otherwise. Any further back and mx would have been practicing trials haha
