so i was poking around on the competitive cyclist website looking for some winter gloves.
luckily it hasn't been that cold here in providence, so i haven't had to think about getting something past my fall gloves.
but it's getting colder.
anyway, something about the lobster claw gloves makes me want to buy them. but are they worth the design? are they better than 5 finger gloves? should i wear 5 fingered gloves under them if i do cave?

i was looking at the assos lobster shells. they don't look quite as bulky as the pearls.
i'm also wondering about the manueverability. i've never worn them...

I prefer flip mitts to lobster gloves because i like to have use of fingers quickly if needed.

Lobster claws keep my fingers warmer than non-lobster claws.

Carry a pair of thin 5-finger gloves in case you have to change a tire or do anything requiring fine dexterity (same problem with bulky, warm 5-finger gloves)

I've got a pair of Salsa Lobster mitts/gloves. They take me from 20°F down to around 0° (with a thin liner glove as we approach the low end). At that point I break out the full blown winter mitts.

I have a pair of Nashbar lobster gloves from a couple of years ago and the linings pull out when I take them off....a real pain in the a.. . Liners help some. I recently got a piar of older thick performance lobster gloves, Very thick and bulky, but they keep my hands toasty down to -5F with a poly liner, Your hands will sweat, so wear a liner. The performance version has a huge terry snozz wiper as well. Much better than the Nashbar version.

+1 for lobsters.

Gloves don't do it for me in coldest conditions (15-35F). Its a place where wind is highest, so windstopper is nice stuff. I use Swix, which are smaller than PI, perhaps a little cooler. They have the snoz wipe, though small. LL Bean has them. I use poly-pro liners when sub-freezing. The two-finger option keeps shifting possible, certainly better than mittens.

I have used heavy mittens on my MTB with rapid fire shifters for 12 years. There is a photo in another thread about Lobster claw mitts.

that said I wear a pair of full-finger standard gloves under my lobsters for longer rides so if I need to take the lobster off to futz with something I can do it and not freeze my fingers.
