Woke up with a scratchy throat today. I haven't had a cold in a long time. Last time I loaded up on the vitamin C, Echinacia and goldenseal, aspirin, and drank a lot of juice. It seemed to work.
Anybody have any good cold remedies?

Run at least 3 miles as fast as you can if you catch it at the first signs. That will spike your T cell count and kill the cold. If you don't run or otherwise exercise like crazy at the first signs and you have a full blown cold, it will only drive it in further to try.

I just don't get them.

I haven't had a sick day in 8 years.

I don't get sick much either. I've called in sick 3 times in the past 4 years, and frankly I wasn't really sick any of those days either (well, that wasn't something self inflicted anyway... ;) ) If I have a light cold exersize as mentioned above really seems to help. Other than that I just drink tons of fluids and try to get decent amounts of sleep.

Capsaicin and a lot of it. Find the highest scoville-unit hot sauce you can tolerate and take a few teaspoon fulls. Follow it with fresh squeezed OJ and/or vitamin C supplements. Repeat 3x per day with lots of water. The last time I got sick was earlier this year and it was food poisoning (not much you can do about that). Last time I actually got sick and had to call in was 1995, as a sophomore in high school.

Zicam http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/P/B000J1FOBA.01._SCMZZZZZZZ_V40635545_.jpg It uses Zincum Gluconium and is meant to be taken at first signs only.

There is also this thing for teachers called airborne someone from here told me to use when I asked about me having a cold. It has a lot of vit/min and herbs and stuff, and it dissolves in water. http://images.picsearch.com/is?fJPG3PebhImV5cnvryofCw9mE5g8UR0EJCKvfRtmICM
These only work on colds only, so if you might have one, they should work:D

+1 I have been using Zicam and I think it works somewhat. It doesn't claim to "kill" a cold, but if you start it as soon as you notice symptoms, it should lessen length and severity.

A few months ago I started getting scratchy throat, I started the Zicam and it never went past scratchy throat. Could be coincidence, but then again, maybe not.

drinking tons of fluids really do seem to help. i constantly rotated OJ, water, and tea thoughout the day when i had my flu\cold a few weeks ago and it made a huge difference.

Honey honey lemonade with fresh lemons. Chicken soup with tons of garlic, lemon and pepper. Anything with zinc in it and anything that helps to boost the immune system. I'm also one who hasn't really been sick in a long time. I think eating healthy, getting plenty of exersise, drinking kombucha and taking immunity supplements has a big part to do with that. :)

I set up a humidifier before the heater comes on. That helps prevent me from getting sick while I sleep. However, working at a place which uses a heater doesn't help, so I load up on chicken soup and matzoh balls (I like to add spinach, kale, and collard greens in addition to the standard celery, carrots, and onion).

Also, exercising despite feeling like crap helps tons. So does getting a massage. However, getting a massage should not be done if you have any fever. If you do get a massage whilst sick, you'll feel much worse afterwards. The worse you feel after the massage, the faster the cold will go away.

What is that thing a "cold"? How about that other word, "flu"? I seem to recall something in the distant past.

Its been 3 years since I've had either.

I take a suplement from a health food place and drink tons of water and oj. Make sure you get enough sleep, and do something to limit stress if possible. I find I only get sick when I'm overworked and/or stressed.

There's a really bad one going around that the flu shot does nothing for but I don't think it involves a sore throat (unless maybe the kind from nasal drainage) so maybe consider yourself lucky. :)

I felt like I was getting sick a couple of weeks ago and popped a nyquil before going to bed, and when I woke up I was fine.

Lots of garlic. A couple of cloves (wedges), either choped and swallowed (table spoon worth) with honey, or sliced on a cracker with what ever you like on crackers. Make sure you eat before or after, it will give you a belly ache in 5 mins, but it will subside. It will make you all bettter. If you dont beleive me, don't, but it really is the best.
