Commuting - Did you ever have one of those days?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Where the commute just makes you hate life in general? You feel like a pinball in the roadway bagatelle? This morning was one for me. It reminded me of a story posted to usenet in the late '80s (pre-web days) by Bob Fishell, after a particularly long running series of baaaad commuting days. (At the time Bob commuted in suburban Chicago to work in Napierville, if memory serves.) It's the story of Spike Bike, and it was even printed in a now defunct road cycling magazine.
Sometimes, you want revenge. For those times, here's the story of Spike Bike. Enjoy the story in the spirit it was written...

Time to give new life to this thread – I just read half this excellent piece of fiction! (I’ll save ”Spike bike returns” for some rainy day.)

I'm glad to say I've moved since I started the thread, so the commuting is much better now. I can read about Spike without identifying with him as much.

Funny, yesterday was both good and bad!
I made my commute in 55 minutes, feeling very strong.
Silly me. I suspected a tailwind, funny I was deceived so easily into thinking it had anything to do with me!
C'mon! 10.7 mph going home?
:crash:
(I had fun, though. :) )
