So everyone I ride with raves about the PI Vagabond. I looked at a couple of their jackets and decided it was an okay jacket and I should pick one up. I really wanted the Gore Windstopper but Performance has stopped carrying it and I missed out on getting one my size.
Anyhoo, I buy a Vagabond and next time I come out to a group ride, I start looking at the differences in the jackets and I have to ask what the hell PI was thinking when they changed the Vagabond for 2007. The hidden zippers SUCK and removing the sleeves is not a trivial affair like it is on the 05 models. Essentially both sleeves and part of the back come off together. The back covering is held on by 3 small Velcro discs, other than that the back is wide open.
There is also no easily accessible rear pocket. There is a semblance of what I think is SUPPOSED to be a rear pocket but it's only accessible when the jacket is basically taken off. The entrance is on the inside so you have to unzip the jacket at a minimum to get into the thing.
All in all, the 06 version looks like a MUCH better made and better designed piece. The zippers are heftier, the sleeve removal design is better and there is actually a rear pocket.
My jacket has started to fray and come apart in less than 2 months. To say I'm disappointed in my $100.00 windbreaker would be an understatement. I've emailed PI expressing my disappointment in the jacket, hopefully they will do something for me.
