Hey! So that's what the original rear derailleur was on that bike! I've got one just like it. Check out the link in my sig for pictures of my Passage. Great riding bike you've got there Tom.

You know with all the hoopla about the Paramounts and other high end bikes, you forget the simple pleasures like the Passage.

Wow Daddy, that is one handsome bike! How did you score something like that? It looks so perfect. What year is it? It makes me even more excited about the one that is coming! :)

Congratulations Tom. For a second there I thought you got that bike from Cuda. Enjoy your new ride. Maybe we can meet up sometime when the weather is good.

Ok, that took less time that I'd thought. Here's a couple shots of my Passage. :)

(All the white in the second photo is reflective tape on the rack and rear fender. It's actually silver in person)

Good find. Are you going to keep the bar foam or go with tape? I think it would look very cool with some yellow Cinelli wrapped on those bars.

Probably stay with the foam til it wears out then go to nice leather handlebar tape. First order of business is to touch up the frame and put a Brooks on it. Right now, it has a Bell saddle and while their comfort saddles are nice, their others suck!

As to the year, I'm not too sure, sometime in the 90's is all I know right now.:D I'll have to look up the serial number.

The LBS I deal with hid it for me, after they picked it up. Gave me a sweet deal too!:D

Nice...your bike will look outright sexy with a brooks and matching tape!

I've always liked the clean, no-nonsense look of the older schwinns.

Yep, get a Brooks, it will be perfect for that bike.

So Tom, take notes, here's what you need:

A Brooks saddle, leather bar tape finished w/ hemp twine (or you can use tan/beige cork tape and put amber shellac on it, click the IRO link in my sig), a Carradice saddle bag and a Sachs or Shimano dyno hub up front.

Ok, I'm projecting what I'd do if it was my bike. Nice score Tom!

Tom, there should be a four digit number stamped into the headbadge. That should give you a model year. Mine's an 87. Don't know what years they made the model, but I believe it was in the fairly early 90's that the Passage went from a touring bike to a hybrid. (at least that's what I remember at the moment, I'm no expert)

A brooks will look perfect on the frame (as you can see by mine). Mariner Fan actually sold me the Honey Brooks B17 that I've got on my Passage and is just now starting to get broken in. I was lucky that mine already had been upgraded to a Shimano SIS rear derailleur and I happened to have a 6speed freewheel and shifters laying around. Makes for a bit of overkill for riding the 9mi round trip to school a couple times a week, but it is a fun ride. Not as fast as my others, but great for riding the trails or on days when there's a bit of water down on the road.

Headbadge no is 1626, near as these old eyes can make out. Yup, 1626! (I used the wifes Magnifier glasses!):D
