So, I think I'd like to get a part time job next semester so I don't have to rely on my parents so much for money. Maybe like 10 hours a week, and it has to fit into my class schedule, which is going to be pretty busy with 17.5 credits. I just don't know what kind of work there is around here. All the jobs on campus seem pretty shi++y; either serving food in a cafeteria or doing custodial work every morning at 5am. I've been looking and just can't seem to find any decent sounding jobs on campus. For off campus work, I could always work at a grocery store or some place like that, but the hours might not be too flexible...

What kind of jobs did you people have during college? Give me some suggestions of how to make money. :)

EMT could work, but that can be an intense job. Well more like medics have an intense job, EMT's just get to drive a box really fast ;) :D

No, we did everything. Peramedics were few and far between then. I was trained in ALS that included MAST pants, airways, IVs, cardiac monitor/defibrulator.

restaurants were good for me because I could always get a free meal. and you can usually get pretty flexible hours. I never wanted to wait tables, but you can make good money doing that. But most people are going to want you to work more than 10 hours a week. I would stick with a campus job for that.

On the other hand, I am not in college but I do have a steady well paying job. I work at a diner during the weekends, and it is a great job. At the same time, it is not an easy job. I need to be at work at 6:15AM but I get out at 245 at the latest. Ever thought about making pizza? Or Working at a local grocery shop? Bike shop? Staples? Landscaping?

Im just throwing out ideas...

Check the library. Easy work. Also, try the locker room at the gym. Lots of time to study while sitting in the cage, and you get to do your laundry for free.

I work at a bike shop. My boss is really flexible with my hours. Once I get my schedule for the semester, we setup my schedule for work. It's nice and I make almost enough money to live.

I worked at Safeway and then Jiffy Lube... Then I got a part-time job at a Mortgage Company... Fast Forward 14 years and I just left Prudential's Mortgage servicing shop in Dallas to work for the Government at the US Dept of HUD back home in SF. So much for trying for a degree in Human Resources....

If you only plan to work 10 hours a week while going to school your options won't be too abundant. You may have to settle for a "would you like fries with that" type job.

Although is you can work at a bike shop like mirona, above, that would be really cool!

Good luck!

It's a good gig and you can get your homework done between calls.

I worked the 4am custodial and in a warehouse on campus. Suck it up and get a campus job, they're usually easy and convenient. Unless of course you know of a place where you can make more money, then do that.

That's my kind of job! Where do I sign up?? :D Maybe I should go to a few sorority parties first so I have some sample pictures to show the company. :p Heck, I wouldn't even need to get paid for that job!

I'd say a restaurant job. Bartender, waiter... They are usually fun places to work and you can make pretty good money.
Of course there's always gay porn.

The company was called Party Pics, they had locations at all the colleges in my area. Ask some around some of the sorority girls and see if they have photographers come to their parties, they can probably point you in the right direction.

step 1: get some breasts (like Will Smith did in Wild Wild West)
step 2: find a dress that will fit you, preferably in some sort of old couch like print
step 3: shave your legs
step 4: find the gnarliest street you can find and set up shop;)

Do you have any particular trade skills?
IN college I am going to try to find part time labor at a machine shop. I think I will be able to work at the one I am now during the summers anyways if that does not work out.

Yeah, suck it up & work (obviously beneath yourself) at the campus cafeteria - at least you'll be well fed.

I am surprised nobody has mentioned drugs yet. This one came up when I had a similar question I while ago. It is pretty lucrative...

i worked in a sandwich shop. Super easy, no real responsibilities, mindless. Didn't pay too well.

I work in an art museum now - much better pay, and I get to talk to old people all day long.

I'm a student (very non-trad) and I do work-study on campus. The money is part of financial aid through the state (Colorado). I work in the department of my major (geology). I usually work as a lab assistant, mostly going on geology field trips or helping in lab classes with the freshmen level classes, and answering a few questions from the students. I also grade assignments sometimes. I have also gotten paid for doing geology field research, which means I basically got paid to go hiking. The couple of times that I rode my mtn bike into a study area meant that I got paid to ride my bike.

This all will look great on my app for grad school too.

I have a girlfriend who put herself through pharmacy school manufacturing MDMA, before it was illegal, naturally - well at least most of that time. Then she got caught. Bad idea, don't get involved with illegal drug manufacturing or distribution, the penalties are far more severe these days.

I worked the front desk of my student union. That was a fun job and it's where I discovered that I'm a natural multitasker.
