...and bought an iPod Nano.
Yeah, it's fidelity is inferior to my Zen Touch, and the battery life is....but this thing is small enough to not have to worry about it falling out of my pocket every time I lean over at work...it actually has cases for it and accessories (the Zen Touch never did..), and no stupid shuffle button that always gets pressed.
Also bought one for my dad for christmas....I know he listens to music when on his motorcycle using an am/fm radio....so if he's going to use headphones, might as well have some good music.
Does it work well? Do you feel it was worth the money? Okay then it's all good. Oh, but you are going to hell for this, you know that right?

Well, I guess it weighs less. :)
I have an odd feeling my gf bought me a black ipod nano, i've wanted one for a while ever since I bought a pair of shuffles for us, ended up giving mine to my mom then my gf took my ipod video since it sounded better on her headphones and I got shafted with the pink ipod mini...

Ahahaha!!! Pink!
Nano's are cool. I got one and I'm cool. ;)
I <3 Apple hardware. My new MacBook is coming this week or next. w00t!
... but for the price vs. features ... iPod for the lose. I'd at least like an FM tuner and maybe time shifting? Oh yah I can spend half as much and get twice the features elsewhere.
Personal preference, though. Enjoy it!
Despite the fact that I hate the ipod's interface, controls, and lack of radio, I still come crawling back for some reason.
I want the new shuffle just for running.
Ill keep my zen for all day riding/skiing.

The zen is great cause it has password protected folders for all your adult videos.
I keep considering a new shuffle, but heck I've got a Mini I never use now!

Send it over, I'll give it to my parents.

+1. I love my iBook but don't like iPods.

OK, who changed my topic....it was "debil" on purpose! :p
FM radio is nice, but too commercial-laden for my tastes.
Some 'helpful' mod I'm sure. :)

I have a nano and really like it so far. I actually like the controls. I buy a lot of music from Itunes so its nice to just copy them directly to it and not have to worry about hacking apples proprietary format to get it on another mp3 player. Sound quality is excellent. Lots of peripheral support too. Plus no spinning hard drive to skip when I'm running or working out....
I've never had my ipod video, creative zen (with the humongous laptop type hard drive) or ipod mini skip when I'm running and especially not when I'm cycling. Those drives can take a lot of live G's before skipping the huge onboard memory buffer. You'll have to be doing some funky ass things to get it to skip.

Maybe the new ones are a lot better. I had an early creative product and it skipped like crazy when I ran, so I've stayed away from them... Besides, I just haven't needed that much storage space...

So if I bought a Nano...could I use my regular MP3 files from my PC and current MP3 player on the Nano? Or do you have to convert them to another "Apple/Ipod Only" format?

it will play regular mp3 files as well. Its the only thing I've found that supports apples proprietary Itunes format though...

They actually give you the tools to do that in iTunes! No hacking required!

Really? What tools are those? I try to convert to mp3 and it won't do that saying it can't convert protected formats.... I can burn a cd and then rip it as mp3's but that is a royal PITA....
I'll admit I have checked over the new versions of itunes too thoroughly though....

My cellphone (http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=893) supports both mp3 and AAC (Apple's iTunes format).

I thought apple itunes format was MP4? Isn't AAC Sony's proprietary format?

I could be wrong.
Just did a quick search, apparently iTunes uses both AAC and M4P as default formats and can read mp3.
Since I don't use iTunes, I haven't kept up with what they use as their default. I do know that it was AAC for a while.

See...the thing is....I have a 512mb Rio MP3 Player and it just acts like a hardrive. Drag and drop the files in and it's happy. I like it a lot, but it's not expandable any further and I'd like to have more songs at my disposal. I'm wondering how a ipod nano will handle my current music files is all....I want to make sure I can import all my current music files, including the ones that are mp3s I've ripped from my CD collection before I go out and take the ipod plunge so to speak.

Yes - as long as they are in mp3 format an Ipod will play them. The only thing I'm not sure an Ipod supports is playing protected WMA files - and it might play those I just don't know for sure. But it will play MP3's all day long....

I got a new shuffle for Christmas. Yes it was sent early. So I could load a playlist on it for the Christmas trip to the in-laws. But I haven't touched it since I loaded a playlist:rolleyes: :o
I'd probably enjoy a little more capacity but being able to clip it to my collar on a long boring bike trail is worth the lack of gigs.

I'll look into it when I have a chance to purchase some stuff from iTunes. As can be related to another thread (Unemployed!), money's a wee bit tight as of late!
Sweet.... I did get the ipod from her... behold the ghost of christmas past.. present.. and future.

Slvoid: I got my girlfriend this case (http://www.iskin.com/evo3/index.tpl?cart=1166899394409627) for her birthday last year. I got the black one. It's, IMHO, the best case on the market. She loves it. We all call her iPod the Ninja iPod because it looks so...black.
I'd recommend getting one of those for that big iPod. Keep it safe. :)

i had an ipod video at one point... spent all my x-mas and chinese new year's money on it, 480 bucks plus tax, came out just shy of 550... got stoned and lost it by march.
moral of the story? don't buy an expensive ipod.
that said, i want the new shuffle... looks indestructible, would be wicked for biking, but i'm also looking for an old shuffle for its superior sound quality.

I never use a case. The problem with most cases is that it makes your ipod just as big as anything else out there. I had a case for my ipod video once and it made it just about as big as my old creative zen, which I never carried with a case. Eventually I just got a screen protector sheet and forgot about it.
If it's not completely busted up and scratched up in a year or two, then I've failed and I can't buy a new one. So it's a good thing to "use it up".
I got the new shuffle. Its really really small. Other than that, im not too impressed. It's my 3rd mp3 player (old iriver, and creative zen before) and its the worst one imo. If it wasn't so fantastically small and light, i wouldnt use it.
