Has anyone here ever overtrained? I just started biking a year ago and I went way to hard... Now I'v been resting forever it seems, like 12 weeks and I still feel weak!

hmm this is indeed a bit too long to be 'overtrained' if you have done a proper recovery, what is your training schedule like? and what is your age/weight/resting heart rate?

do you know you are overtrained simply because of feeling or are there tell tail signs? (such as a high resting HR, trouble sleeping, going slow when even pushing it)

orguasch gave the best advice though, you probably want to see a doc to make sure nothing is seriously wrong...

welcome to the forums though :)

I agree.

I was never a competitive cyclist, but I was a competitive swimmer. There were times we overtrained. Luckily, we had a coach that was able to catch it right away. He would back off of workout intensity for a few days and we were back to normal.

But 3 weeks? If you have laid off totally, it may be that your body is just adjusting. However, I'm not a doctor.

That isn't overtraining. It sounds like something medical. It sounds like iron deficency but I'm not saying it is or isn't. This is something you really need to see a doctor about.

I would ride like 5 days a week at a very fast speed... like 15-30 miles a day or about 105 miles per week. It was all mostly mountain biking on some roads occasionaly. I'm only 15 and my doctor reccomended to rest a while so I did. I guess my problem was too high intencity, my weight is 132 pounds but I'd have to check on that now. I think I'm gonna go back in man, I'm not really scared just impatient!

It seems like you young whipper-snappers have an endless source of energy. I miss those days.

Personally, I'd start up again with easy rides.

Take a long walk.
I am serious, walk for an hour. If you don't feel better, go see the Doc. If you do, start riding.........but ease off the gas a bit. You might want to try a training program; if you're gonna ride that hard, you might as well get in shape
while you're doing it.

Better question: is there anyone here who hasn't overtrained?

Best to separate hard days with easy days. Maybe 2 hard days in a row, but then recover. You're young. Strong. It's easy to overlook the symptoms.

I like late's suggestion.

After a month, you may have to ride a few days just to get some tone back. Personally, sometimes the best way to get past a slump is to jump on the bike and "push it." Along about halfway through the ride, something kicks in and all of a sudden you're sucking air, digging for more, and loving it.

I don't think it's ever taken me more than a couple of days to recover from a spell of overtraining, including the times in the fall when I return to the high elevation and start riding. You might wanna have that checked out by someone other than a stranger on some internet boards.
