My wife has been doing a program called Cyclo-core. They offered a Bike BootCamp in San Diego in Feburary, so she signed me up as my Christmas gift. Graeme Street is the Cyclo-Core guy, but John Howard is doing most of the camp I think. It's geared for the "everyday cyclist", but I'm a slow, slightly overweight, 40 something. Hopefully I will survive.

The camp will likely take the bulk of the week, but would be cool to ride with some BF'ers if it worked out. I show up the 20th (night), and camp runs the 21st - 25th, and I'm heading out the 26th (around 11 am). I know the Tour of CA also ends the 25th they were trying to set up something to maybe see the finish. Might be able to do something later on the 25th. I hopefully have a better schedule in a couple weeks.

Also is there any need for a car? I'm flying Southwest and right now planning on flying with the bike.

Sorry to be so vague, just thinking out loud a bid.

John

Hi John...I'm sure that we can work something out for you to meet the BF people. The end of Tour of Ca is Long Beach and several of us are planning to be there, working the event as volunteers.

This is California - nothing it close by - if you plan on getting away from the hotel or place you are staying you will need a car. Public transportation here is well, not desirable. Of course if you bring the bike you might be able to ride everywhere. San Diego is about 100 South of OC where the BF group resides and about 150 miles from Long Beach. I think John's Camp is alittle further North than San Diego but still a way from Orange County.

BTW - love John Howard. I did some work for him about 4 years ago. He really knows his stuff.

When you get some time let us know where you are staying and what you plan on doing while here and we can give you some direction...

There are also quite a few BF'ers down here in San Diego. Last time I checked So Cal included other areas outside of the Orange ;)

The San Diego Bike Club has an open Saturday morning ride that is very well attended. The ride is split into 4 different groups and may be an option if you are looking to ride in the area with others. There are a few BF people that do this ride.

Ok OK OK I goofed. Yes there is an LA group and a OC group and various folks end and there and most definitely a SD group. I guess I only hear of and know of the rides going out of OC or by the OC group.

SD people speak up offer this guy a ride.

PS - the dude's still gonna need a car...

With his/his wife's bike bootcamp training and all, I'm not sure that even if we arranged a ride I'll only see them at the starting line. :p

Have you been to San Diego before? If you do plan to do any sightseeing at all (or just going to LA/OC), you'll need a car. If you don't plan on those or won't have enough time, then it isn't needed.

As blue nose said, SDBC club rides every Saturday morning at 8:30am at Nobel & I-805. Mileage goes from ~10 miles to 50+ depending on with of the 6 groups you ride in.

Thanks for all the info. I would love to ride, but I'll need to wait for the schedule. Hopefully the bootcamp won't kill me. I've never done the videos, but all the Hindu squats may do me in. I'm going to start the videos after Christmas to get ready for the camp. :-)

We were in SD about 10 years ago, did the Zoo, Mexico, just a long weekend. If I do sight see would like to do it by bike.

They have set up accommodations at Comfort Inn Cardiff by the Sea, so I'm guessing that is where we'll start each day. It's the first camp they done, so sort of cleaning up a few details as they go.

Thanks again for the help.

John
