Hi, I have a set of the dia compe v-brake levers for drop bars. Does anybody know whether the levers are compatible with disk brakes? If they're not, could you provide any recommendations as to drop bar levers for disks. Thanks.

Yes they work fine: I used 287V's and Avid BB7 road discs before I changed the levers to Campagnolo Ergos ( I did not like the bar-end shifters ).

If you have any other ( i.e. MTB ) mechanical disc brakes, you cannot upgrade the levers alone at a later date.

[ NB: The 287V levers, they are the only drop levers that will work with standard MTB disc brakes ]

Why should it matter? If the lever pulls the cable, thats what all brake levers do, right?

Some levers pull more cable than others, and are thus more appropriate for the brakes that expect that amount of cable to be pulled.

cant you just adjust it to work with anything though? I used cantilever brake levers for v-brakes for 500 miles until I decided I didnt like my bars.

You canŽt pull enough cable for v brakes with standard road levers. So youŽd end up with the pads super close to the rims to get it to work. I suppose it might be possible, but I wouldnŽt want to ride a bike like that.

If you have 287-V levers, get the standard mountain bike version of the BB7. Do NOT get the road version. The regular BB7 is designed to work with standard V-brake levers.
