Yeah, now we need an East Coast Mob (you got 3 hours on us), or something similar.
NTWC is coast to coast ;)

Our 75,000th member registered yesterday!

We hit 30,000 just last may (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=104830), we have averaged 75 new members a day for the last 18 months!

The community created 150,000 new threads, and 2.5 million new posts in that same time period!

Very impressive, keep up the good posting and remember to keep the site newbie friendly! :)

I find this hard to beleive actually, becuase it feels like i am talking to the same people every day.

Joe, does that member count account for banned spammer accounts by chance? There must be 30 of those a day sometimes.

All in all though, there are a lot of new introduction posts that are not spammers every day. Part of the influx may be the BikeForums jerseys that are now out and about getting the word out. I sure enjoy wearing mine into my LBS when I have any excuse to do so.

Can you name all 75,000 members?

Sure - here they are:

http://www.bikeforums.net/memberlist.php?

And the major membership impetus came with the ULock Thread and the resulting publicity in numerous newspapers and mags with the link posted.

cold dose of reality>> "75,000" "members" with around 600 members viewing at the time of this post = low volume forums

lotsa "air" in that statistic

Your post was at 3:19PM mountain time, on a weekday. That's about the time when a lot of people are actually working.

Compare that to the stats for 4:35Pm mountain time, Christmas Day- Currently Active Users: 1120 (300 members and 820 guests) and you can see that there are not a lot of users on during the day, but it picks up at night and on weekends.

820 guests! I sure hope they find the forums welcoming enough to join.

It does, I was just going off the member ids, looking at user accounts, we have a bit over 73,000 members in good standing, about 50,000 unique members have logged into the forums in the last 6 months. I think thats outstanding for a forum of this size.

I sorted the membership list by the number of posts.

The top posters are Maelstrom (15 400), Rayin (13 418) and slvoid (12 380).

At 30 names per page...
user 301 has 1816 posts
user 1501 has 435 posts
user 3001 has 173 posts
user 6001 has 56 posts.

Below that, it's difficult to easily separate recent members who didn't have much time to post yet, from older members who are mostly lurkers and olders members who decided to stay off for various reasons.

Still keeping together a community of 6000-10 000 active users requires good leadership.

Thanks, Joe.

Interesting stats. Your post got me curious about how many lurkers we have on the forums, I track sections of the site with Google's Analytics software.

In the past 3 months (Sept 25th to Dec 25th) we had 752,146 unique visitors to the site (8,175 a day), 74.5% are first time visitors.

Just goes to show, for every registered member, we have a huge amount of lurkers, for every active poster, we have 100+ people who read the site for information, but will never register or post on the forums. I'm ok with that, lots of people are learning something new every day thanks to all the active forum members on the site.

I've slowed down. At 11,130 (plus this one ) I'm not even in the top 3. Had I kept my job in the transport industry, I would have been #1. I didn't put in 2 hours of overtime every day for nothing. ;)Thanks for the stats though. Interesting to see that the 2nd most prolific poster is someone who left many months ago.

I find myself 16th but I have been around longer than any of the 15 higher posters - 08-30-01.

An interesting statistic that you might figure for yourself is your "posts per mile." IOW, how many miles do you ride between each post on an average.

I've got 7,931 since 08-30-01, and about 27,000 miles, or an average of 1 post for every 3.4 miles. How about the rest of you high posters?

Looks like it may be a few months before we hit 75,000 active forum members. I deleted all the spam accounts as well as any user who registered and has not logged into the forums in the last year.

We were left with 61,538 'active' accounts.

I'm about 2 for 1. 5,062 posts since 1-3-05, and about 9,800 miles in that time. Believe it or not, I also work full time and have a life. Well, sort of.... And I don't own a computer, and I've never paid more than $125 for a bike.

How about a low poster?? I've got 724 posts since 6/15/01 with approximately 25,700 miles which works out to about 1 post per 35 miles. I'm definately not a "chatty kathy".

I believe it. The user number is definitely higher than I have ever seen it. I am sure during the TDF we can expect record numbers.
