By engagement points I assume you mean the internal drive?

No (well maybe I am not sure what you are refering to)...have you ever noticed the way shimano hub have almost a full quarter turn before the drive train starts. Shimano has a very low number of engagement points. Chris King on the other start instantly...you push forward and the drive train engages...immediately. Very cool feeling if you are used to shimano. :)

Ok, I think I know what you mean now. I was wondering how those numbers could be so high. I thought you were referring to the actual contacts inside the hub. My piece-o'-crap Formula's only have 3 contact pawls inside. But engagement points as you are describing will be higher. I'll check if you're interested in the Formula's.

Jeez - I thought by the subject of the thread you were trying to justify getting engaged in terms of Mountain Biking...

I assume from what Dirtgrinder said that the engagement points are different from the pawls?
72 on the King? Wow! Must be pretty smooth (and quiet?).

Actually more engagement points means louder...as you roll along it makes the coolest BRRRRRRRRRRRR sound...I actually want that :D...

You could always buy the Shimano Silent Clutch...only 40 american and no sound at all.

Personally I don't like the Brrrbrrbrbbrrbb noise of Hugi's and the like. I'd like to try out one of these:

I absolutely HATE quiet hubs! I want my hubs to SCREAM on the downhills and around corners! My XT hubs were quiet at first, but when they started getting broken in they got louder. I like the whine of the Chris Kings.. and the instant engagement sounds sweet.
