Bicycle Mechanics - stuck cassette?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I bought a chain whip and the lock ring removal tool to remove the cassette from my Trek 1000 with a Sora/Suntour group. For whatever reason, I can't get the cassette off and I'm afraid that if I really bear down on it, that I'll break something.
I'm pretty sure the cassette has been off at some point since I broke a spoke on that side once and it had to be replaced. The LBS did that for me though.
Any suggestions?
Spray some penetrating oil on the threads. Tri-Flow will work fine. Let it soak for a while and then try again. Sometimes it takes a little muscle. If you have access to a vise, it may make it easier.

Is it the ring that won't come loose? In case you don't know, there are small teeth on the ring to lock it on. It will take some pressure to get it started if it's tight. Then it will all come loose at once. Pull harder! :)

You might want to check a book/site to make sure you are using the chain whip correctly. You might also want to make sure the wrench turning the lockring tool is being turned the correct way. Otherwise, I would go Dirtgrinder's route - just turn harder. When I removed a cassette from an older bike that had been ridden hard and then left sitting for a little while, the lockring tool took a lot of force before finally breaking the lockring loose.

Put the lockring tool in the vice to hold it. then you can use both hands on the chain whip!!
Or, just get a big-@$$ rubber mallet. BTW, re-installing the skewer through the casette/freewheel tool will keep it from falling off as you beat on the wrench end.

Place the quick-release mechanism back in place after placing the lockring remover on the cassette. Then place a wrench on the remover and like D*Alex said hit it with a large hammer. I had to bang it quite a bit before it moved. Just be careful that you don't hit any spokes!
