My wife's a teacher (high school AP Chem and AP Environmental Science in Cerritos), and I work in the bike industry, but we both have the week off between Christmas and New Years.
Should be fun!

Yeah, love working at a school! (computer network admin). Our last day was Wednesday and we don't go back until Jan 8th. Although I confess I will be doing little tasks from home..thank god for the Internet!

I'm a teacher, so ditto on the WEEEEE! But here's the rub: we leave for a week in Hawaii on Sunday AM--wife's treat. I've never been there, it's been as cold as I remember in SoCal lately, and we could use some time away.
But I find myself resenting the time away from my bike, and my usual ride routes. Putting this down in print makes it seem even sillier, but still. . . .

Teacher here as well, so weeeeeeeeee for me too! We call it Winter Break, though, because we can't offend anyone. I can't call my concerts Christmas Concerts either, and since I will have 3 Jehovah's Witness students in my advanced band next year, I won't even be able to play holiday songs. God bless America!

That's such crap. I'm Jewish, but grew up looking forward to good Christmas music--the older and more sacred the better--at school concerts. I mean, if someone wishes me Merry Christmas, they're inviting me to share in their joy, whoever I am. What's to take offense at?
I teach at a private school, with a large minority of Jews and even a couple of Muslims in the student body, and nobody minds Christmas references. I sometimes wonder if these restrictions come from actual student/parent objections, or from bureaucrats with nothing better to do.

Oie Vey! I concur. I say Merry Christmas. If someone tells me they are celebrating Hannakuh, I say "Happy Hannakuh." What difference does it make!

Merry (Insert favorite holiday here)!!!
I see it this way, you can't hurt anyone’s feelings, and someone has to want their feelings to be hurt. I was taught "sticks and stones" when I was a kid and though I do know that words can be very hurtful, wishing someone a Merry Christmas can in no way hurt their "feelings". It's people trying to change the history of our country into making everyone believe that the country was founded on the principal of freedom FROM religion when in fact it was freedom OF religion that brought the Puritans here.
Merry Christmas everyone!

Irony alert: Did Puritans in the 17th century celebrate Christmas?
Hint: Massachusetts Bay Colony.
The history is pretty interesting...

I googled as well. It is interesting!
For those that are to lazy to Google Puritan history, it went a little something like this. "First we charbroil all the women, then we ban Christmas."

Not all the women, just the witches. They were easy to identify. They were the women who spoke up in public or had husbands that were bored of them.

They were the innocent one's, cause only witches knew how to survive in the water, cause they weighed the same as a duck.

Ahem. No witches were burned in New England. They were hanged, except for one cool guy who refused to plead either guilty or innocent (to save his property for his sons), and was pressed to death with stones. Ecch.
See what happens when a history teacher gets two weeks off?
On to Hawaii!
Merry Christmas and happy New Year to all.
