Classic & Vintage - Oldy miles, '06

Not that it matters a whit,
My year started out with a lot of commuting on a '60's Raleigh/Hercules and a 50's Hercules to the tune of around 590 miles combined. Looks like it will end with around 750 on the '64 Schwinn.

Add in some Twinn time and I'm past 1400 "vintage" miles for the year. Not particularly fast miles, but mostly very very pleasant miles.

So how about it? Are your rides rides or hangar queens?

This being my first year in C&V, I only logged around 600 miles combined on the Giordana (500) and the Pinarello (100). But I fully expect to triple that next year.

Gonna be close to 2500 miles this year on my '91 Tommasini, 8-speeds and all, with 'Record' downtube shifters no less. I have other bikes, but I only want to ride this one for some reason. :D

I hope to pass 2700 miles total next week. All but about 475 were on my bikes that were at least 27 years old and older. Even my trainer miles are done on a '79 Schwinn. 2007 should be even better. I'll have a '62 Continental and a '71 Varsity on the road by late spring. The '03 C-Dale might see even fewer rides.

Looks like I will end up with about 2800 miles but the year isn't finished yet.

This has been a very bike mileage lite year for me:( Probably under 500 total:eek: I would say all but about 100 of them have been on vintage rides. (if you consider a POS Mongoose aluminum mtb vintage;) ) If I am going out for a ride it is usually on my 1972 Superbe or my 68 Compact RSW. I have made one ride on my 87 Giant Excursion to try out the new handlebar install.

Well l can give the least k's I ride in the summer mths 30 k's a day back and forth to work which is 300 k's for a 5 day week and 1200 k's a mth. Thats the least. The other day I had to move my pick up to get something past it when I tried to move it the brakes were rusted to the roators they had to brake free when I put it in gear. I ride an 80's Fiori.

I rode fixed in the summer but have been riding
my '84 Peugeot daily as my 25 mile RT commuter.
I have a collection of heli-comatisized spokes to prove it :D

I bought a '62 Raliegh Sport to be this commuter but still,
no much needed second gear in the TCW :cry:

Vintage mileage was around 2,500 this year - started the season on a UO-8 which has been off-the-road awaiting a BB and headset rebuild since the spring, then moved on to a '70s vintage Fontan Laser (comparable to a lower-end Peugeot of similar vintage), then finished up the fall on a 70s Atala Grand Prix. Additional winter mileage (about 500), was on a "new" 5-year Specialized Hardrock Comp (aluminum mountain bike) - not vintage, but another freebie from trash day!

Only about 100 miles unfortunately on my Masi Gran Criterium. I had some issues with tires, hubs, shifting, and freewheel spacing.
My 1980 Puch Marco Polo touring rig went about 500 miles some of it towing a trailer or with panniers attached. Always with my Eclipse handlebar bag.
My mid-80's Japanese "Saint Tropez" was my main "steed", I rode ~3300 miles on it and wore out one set of Continental Grand Prix 3000's.
My brand new Flyte has gone 210 miles. It is sidelined presently due to a defective Wipperman chain. I just sent the chain to the US distributor (Velimpex Marketing in Fort Collins, Colorado) 2 days ago requesting a new non-defective one.
For now I'll be back on the Saint Tropez.

The Masi gets ridden less and less, for 2007 I really need to shoot for at least 1000miles on that one.
Right now I'm getting some Dura Ace 7410 crank arms polished. Looking for some Superglide 39/53 chainrings. Also, the standard issue Campy high flange 36 hole tubular wheels with Arc,N,Ciel rims are getting some attention. The axle is being swapped out from a 5/6 speed to a 7 speed capable one. Also, I'm planning on having my LBS Pro mechanic relace and dish the rear for higher spoke tension and proper dish. I've already glued the Vittoria Rally front tire and really look forward to riding "tubies" again!

I am guessing that I put 2-300 miles on each of my bikes with the exception of the Gitane that I started riding in the summer.

Maybe next year I will log the miles to be sure.

For the year 2006 the lugged steel beauties in my garage turned just over 3000 miles.

I hope to increase that 50% in 2007, without adding bikes.

I feel safe in drawing a line under the total since it is snowing to beat the band here and I suspect that my miles for the balance of the year will all be on an Aluminium MTB with studded tires.

80's Raleigh....2500 miles, thus far 220 on my Passage, but hey, I just got it!
over 1500 on a cheap late 80's early 90's Royce Union set up as a commuter.

I have no clue, because I don't own a single mileage meter or computer, though I own about twenty bikes. I know my weekly mileage is well over a hundred miles, probably most weeks closer to 200, but that's about it. Most all of my mileage is on vintage steel-- my newest bike is a 1991 Bridgestone RB2, which is a beater. I ride out to Ashland 2-3 times a week, usually on a 1972 Peugeot PX10 or the 1973 CID/Eisentraut. Or, for bling, a Austro Daimlier Vent Noir 2. Commuting is done on the aforementioned Bridgestone, a 1973 PX fixie conversion, a uo10, the venerable PF10, and a seriously hacked 76 Gitane.

Unlike Poguemahone, I'm a mileage geek - and anal to the point that I try to keep all the wear equal between all four road bikes, which means that as of this writing I'm running somewhere between 620 and 655 per bike. Add in another 110 on the Raleigh MTB. Which means at least 2600 for the year. Yes, they all have cyclometers. Ain't neuroses fun?

I'm not complaining, considering that the broken wrist had me off the bike the last week in August, all of September, and about half of October. I usually try for 500 miles a month during the season, and half that during the off season.

Oh yeah, said mileage is divided between a 64 Raleigh Gran Sport/69 Magneet (one cyclometer run between the two due to frame changeover), 71 Gitane Tour de France, 88 Rossin RL, 03 Fuji Finest, and an 81 Raleigh Seneca MTB.

Well, if my 86 panasonic dx4000, 86 Vitus 979, and 91 Raleigh technium count as vintage then I have about 6500 miles on all three combined.

All of my miles this year were on vintage steel: 2200ish between the Cuda, Gazelle and Schwinn.

Some folks think it should be retired as wall art, but my 1959 Capo currently gets a bit over 2k km of use per year.

I do have an odometer on my commuter/tourer but that was added in the summer and I was out of commission for september and october for orthopedic surgery (I now have a titanium renforced femur:D Bling!) Just a little riding in november easing back into it, no riding the last 2 weeks of august or december due to being away from home travelling and visiting family. My Nishiki International gets the most being the touring bike (1 small tour summer 2006 -more in 2007) and daily commuter, I'd say it gets an average of 80kms a week. The other bikes...usually another 30-120kms on the weekends (yes highly variable). The Faggin is suffering from fork tip allignment issues and the chain sometimes doesn't like to play nice with the freewheel, Hope to sort those issues out in january and start putting some real miles on my italian stallion with my newly aquired vintage italian riding shoes.

I've noticed that most of really do put the miles on our bikes. I didn't get cyclocomputers on many of mine until I had ridden them for about three months or so, but even so, I think I have about 1500 miles on the 6 steel bikes. Amazingly, I have over 1900 on the Dolce (and I reset it to zero by accident in February), so almost 3500 miles.

You'd think I would be as slim as a reed, don't I wish.
