General Cycling Discussion - Ok, why are Hydrapaks so cheap on PricePoint??

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I was almost tempted to purchase to Hydrapak Trackers (2) for 21 bucks, holds 70oz. Then I thought to myself, I better check here to see if these suck and if I better with something like the Camelbak Mule that runs 59 bucks at PricePoint. Im looking for a hydration pack for mtb racing (12hr races). Yes, I did a search and didnt find anthing specific on this issue.

Maybe they just get a bigger surplus or something?

Nikos, I think that they are possibly trying to undersell the others?
And just like those other guys, they get you on spare bladders?

Have you tried looking for a Platypus? Ive got one well it's a MEC house brand one with a Platypus reservoir , www.mec.ca after 4 years, I'm still on my first bladder, Ive used it cycling, skiing, at work on 30C days (line work in a bucket truck, awesome use!!) and it was almost half what a comparable camelbak would have cost.

I've purchased 5 Hydrapaks from Pricepoint over the last few years...I've got nothing but positive comments about Hydrapaks...

Coz they'll get you on the delivery fee. I tried getting a wedge pack from them and the delivery fee is almost as much as the pack.

$6/pack or $10/pair
$5/shipping for one.

That's a lot of money to ship something so light! They must be bringing them over via the Concorde or something!

Maybe they re-coup the low cost with inflated shipping charges?

A friend bought a pair of shoe covers from Colorado Cyclist, the only place that stocked them. The shipping cost more than the covers!!

That's exactly what I was thinking. They sometimes do that on ebay. I usually check what the shipping charges will be for an item before bidding, and if it's some set price that's a rip off, I don't even bother bidding.

Hi,

Just to answer why we get sell for a better rate on most of our products is we buy a great deal of inventory and dont drop ship. If you don't know the term "drop ship" that is when a company does not keep the inventory on hand on contacts a third party to fufill your order. We have our own warehouse and buy a great deal of product. This is why we have such an advantage.

Thanks,

Howard

All I can tell anyone is that I have a Camelbak and have had for 6 years. Just changed the bladder due to a leak but it works fine. And I was a mountain biker and now use it on the long road rides. Several of my MTB buddies use other makes of back packs- but they all work as good as each other- They all do the same job.
