I would like to purchase some brake/derailler cable cover tubing. I talking about the tubing that is about 1/16 inch o.d. and 1/32 inch i.d. that covers the bare brake/derailler cable along the top tube. Anyone know of a source?

It's kind of fallen out of fashion. The common replacement is plastic donuts.

Shimano still sells it as " Cable Liner" and it comes in a little flat pack of about 6' (2M?). I've seen it in a couple of bike shops for about $2/pack. I got mine at a shop in Orlando, FL a few months ago. The p/n is Y80098100 and the package is also marked 1/10 which, I assume, means it comes in cases of 10 packs.

I much prefer the plastic sheathing- the donuts still allow the cable to scratch the tube. I needed this tubing on my most recent build, and none of my LBS's had any. But I had a 'eureka' moment. I ended up using the insulating vinyl cover from common household wire, solid type. I don't recall whether it was 12 or 14 gauge. Costs next to nothing. You need to carefully pull the wire from the insulation. Wire comes in a bunch of colors- I used good ol' black.

You might try heat-shrink tubing. This doesn't come in long lengths but several pieces may fill your needs. I've used it with good results (especially along the chainstay). If you want it to stay in place you shrink it.

I found this item at Bike Tools Etc. and it seems to be the tubing you are looking for if you can't find the Shimano liner:

You don't need the ferrules but they come along anyway.

Shink tubing is not a bad alternative. I was in Fry's Electronics the other day and saw shrink tubing in long lengths, like three feet and with varying diameters.
