I have Campagnolo Scirocco wheels which, I have now learned, may not be tough enough to survive an off road excursion. Are there any Campy-compatible cyclocross wheels I can buy from an online source?

What did you learn about the Scirocco wheels?

You can go to Colorado Cyclist and buy a set of Chorus hubs laced to some Mavic CXP-33 rims. That should be tough enough for just about anyone. Good luck

These wheels are used on road bikes only. I have not seen them on any cyclocross bikes and the Campagnolo website says that their equipment is for smooth road use only. I have ready good reports about them from roadies, however. Also, I weigh 175 lbs and Campagnolo says their wheels are designed for 80 kg (180 lbs) or less. Basically I'd hate to take these off road and ruin a nice and expensive set of wheels.

In short I don't know much about cyclocross equipment.

Excel Sports in Boulder can build any wheel you want from Campy hubs. The traditional 3X lacing pattern would be much better than most botique wheels. I built up a set of 36H Centaur hubs 4X with Mavic Open Pro rims and DT Swiss 14/15 spokes. They are very tough and comfortable to ride. I weigh 225# and these wheels have been ridden hard off road and are still true. They aren't very heavy either.

My buddy is running 10 speed Campy on his cross and he has a pair of Mavic Aksiums (sp?) and a pair of MAvic Ksyriums. I've seen other people running the Ksyriums.

Personally, I have no clue why anybody in America would run Campy on a cross bike. If you wreck a wheel and go into the pit to borrow a spare, no one will have Campy. You have to provide all your own spares.

My CX bike is running factory issue Campy Ventos. I'm a clyde and simply haven't been able to kill them in town or off road.

As much as I prefer Campy, that is a good point. Which is why I am contemplating a switch to Shimano on one of my rides.

Well, I checked with my local bike shop and they swear that my Campy Scirocco wheels are very tough. I've done more research and found out clydesdale riders are very happy with them, so I'll keep them.

The Sciroccos will be tough enough. If you want some cheap wheels for spares or to just use for the cross scene, look into the Campy Vento wheels. You can get them for about $230 and they are very strong. You can even get teh Khamsin wheels for $190 if you want to just have them as spares (too heavy for real race use).

I'm glad to see more Campy cross users! Seriously, if you run Campy on the road... it makes little sense to run Shimano on your cross bike. Stick with one or the other, so you can mix and match wheels if need be. Besides, what crosser doesn't have spare wheels in the pits if you are racing a lot? I personally wouldn't expect to borrow wheels unless it was pre arranged.
